CEO NAMIC - Transforming and Decarbonizing Industries with Sustainable Digital Manufacturing | ASTM Board Member - Developing Standards for Global Impact | NUS Adjunct Professor - Nurturing STEM Talent
Delighted to host 2M Minister Tan, our Governing Board members and colleagues from Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore) at A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research together with Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) Enterprise Singapore SGInnovate. Grateful that 2M spent an entire morning engaging with our industry partners spanning the #Sustainability #Healthcare #AI #Generativedesign #Advancedmaterials #HardTech #Construction #Maritime space. Our partners Craft Health Osteopore (OSX.AX) Hyperganic Xinterra Mencast Holdings Ltd Addept3D Circrete CoolestDC. And several more. Took a lot away from the deep exchanges. Singapore aspires to be one of the leading #deeptech hubs in the world and is featured as one of the global #additivemanufacturing startup hotspots together with San Francisco, New York, Boston, Berlin, London (AMPOWER Insights). Additive manufacturing is pivotal to enabling novel products, mass customization, mechanization for improved labour productivity, simplify supply chains and reduce material waste. We will continue to work with all our ecosystem partners to grow and fortify the value chain, lower adoption barriers, bridge the right level of technology with applications, as well as grow our local talent pool to support industrial-scale adoption. Additive manufacturing (AM) has been a gamechanger, disrupting traditional manufacturing methods by allowing rapid prototyping of parts and products. To better position Singapore as a hub for AM, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC Singapore) was launched in 2015 as a national platform hosted by A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research, to assist our startups and SMEs to leverage AM technologies, help larger enterprises to deepen their AM capabilities, and support our students and researchers hoping to commercialise cutting edge AM technologies to spin-off companies. I was delighted to visit NAMIC and had insightful conversations with industry representatives that have embraced AM as a key technology driver in their business models. They shared their perspectives on how they have used AM to create novel products that have the potential to transform their industry sectors. Singapore needs to develop our capabilities and build a skilled talent pool well versed in AM. As AM technology improves and finds new applications in many sectors, Singapore will need to ride this AM wave to ensure that we stay ahead as a high tech, innovation-driven hub.
