Southeast Asia is one of the fastest growing regions in the world. But there are significant gaps between investments and climate ambitions, leaving the countries in the region dependent on fossil energy sources. The goal of our business accelerator program for Southeast Asia is to introduce off-the-shelf technologies that can shift this balance in favor of renewable energy deployment while strengthening our countries’ innovation capabilities. Our very first Southeast Asia Energy Day took place in Stockholm, giving 18 Swedish small-and medium sized companies the opportunity to pitch their innovations to an audience of representatives from, among others, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), embassies (Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam) as well as selected Swedish multinational companies and investors. The conference also addressed:  🔹 How to facilitate partnerships between the industry in Southeast Asia and innovative companies in Sweden as part of the green transition  🔹 How the Swedish framework for international trade and aid can reform over the coming years  🔹 How bi- and multilateral cooperation can accelerate the energy transition and climate mitigation Thanks to all participants! Affectus AB BPC Instruments AB Cetasol - Maritime Sustainability CoolSaver Gomero Hexicon Katam Technologies Primozone SeaTwirl AB Unipower AB Waves4Power AB CemVision Epishine ECOLOO Group Midsummer Minesto Spowdi Trine Business Sweden Asia-Pacific Sida Regeringskansliet, Utrikesdepartementet

  • How can Sweden and New York exchange best practices and experiences in leading-edge commercial and multifamily decarbonisation projects? This was the topic when the Swedish Energy Agency teamed up with Building Energy Exchange and NYSERDA in New York for a day of joint discussions with industry experts from both NYC and Stockholm. The “NYC-Stockholm Retrofit Exchange” event also marked the release of a report distilling the best practices observed in Stockholm last summer by a U.S. delegation. Richard Yancey, Executive Director, Building Energy Exchange, states: "Sweden and Stockholm is one of the international frontrunners of sustainable urban development. If you want to look 10 or 15 years into the future of what New York City can be, look to Stockholm with leading examples of district level smart growth encompassing buildings, transportation, waste and community engagement." • The Swedish Energy Agency and Ghana's Ministry of Environment have signed a bilateral agreement on climate cooperation under the Paris Agreement. Caroline Asserup, Head of the Climate Department at the Swedish Energy Agency, states: “Our collaboration with Ghana is a good example of our international work, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and speeding up global climate mitigation.” The Swedish Energy Agency has already agreed to purchase emissions reductions generated by a solar power project within the framework of the cooperation. Sandra Lindström, Head of International Climate Cooperation at the Swedish Energy Agency, says: “Our first project in Ghana is estimated to reduce emissions by around 165,000 tons of carbon dioxide by 2030. With the bilateral agreement in place, we are now aiming to establish even more projects in Ghana.” The agreement is Sweden's first legally binding cooperation agreement for emissions trading under the Paris Agreement. Sweden also has Memoranda of Understanding with Nepal, the Dominican Republic and Switzerland. Read more about our work in international climate cooperation:  https://lnkd.in/gSvuAn9G

  • Green hydrogen offers significant potential to decarbonise various sectors, especially the hard-to-abate ones, thus it’s a critical enabler of the transition to global sustainable energy systems and net-zero economies. We just spent the last week exploring the H2 value chain in Texas and California together with a delegation of leading Swedish companies. Texas insights:  🔹 Big focus on blue hydrogen, using existing infrastructure but complementing with CCS.  🔹 Companies from the entire value chain are working on development projects in several sectors  🔹 Most projects are in early phase  🔹 Yet, provided that new offtakers and a viable business case can be found for green hydrogen, opportunities are there California insights:   🔹 Stronger emphasis on green hydrogen compared to other states  🔹 Greater focus on mobility where both refueling infrastructure is in place in several places and blue production facilities that supplies refueling stations  🔹 Hydrogen vehicles and work machines are in operation at the ports  🔹 Many companies are engaged in hydrogen initiatives  🔹 California is approaching hydrogen development as an ecosystem with a must-have emphasis on renewable hydrogen The Swedish Energy Agency highlights hydrogen as a priority area for energy collaboration with the United States. The collaboration will focus on the role of hydrogen in the green transition and promote technology exchange between the US and Sweden. • To shape climate neutral cities, we not only need to improve existing systems and technologies, but we also need to be brave to break through established norms and change the system as a whole. These were some of the insights from the energy conference that we hosted this week at the Nordic Embassies in Berlin.   The objective was to deepen the bilateral collaboration between Sweden and Germany within the energy landscape and further catalyse the shift towards urban climate neutrality. The conference focused on measures and technologies to promote sustainable cities and smart mobility, and convened institutional and corporate stakeholders from both the Swedish and German energy ecosystem.   Thank you to Embassy of Sweden in Germany and Business Sweden for a fruitful collaboration and to our inspiring keynote speakers and panellists for sharing their missions and experiences!   #Innovation #GreenTransition
