The IoT market is in the middle of its evolution. Value creation is significant, market growth expectations are high, but key challenges must be addressed to unlock the full market potential. A recent study from Ericsson IndustryLab is providing new key insights. Today, digitalization is revolutionizing enterprise value creation. Integrated across operations, digitalization improves agility, advances operations and boosts resilience. The fourth edition of the Ericsson IndustryLab report series the “Future of Enterprises” investigates current enterprise digitalization in the form of IoT use cases that are relevant across a wide range of industry segments. The first part of the study features a case study of Motor City Wash Works, a customer of Cradlepoint which is part of Ericsson. Motor City Wash Works uses embedded cellular connectivity to enable asset monitoring, remote control, and connected offerings in automated car wash tunnel systems. In addition to this case study, the report also includes a global, quantitative, and qualitative cross-industry analysis of these IoT use cases providing insights on value creation, use case evolution, and key challenges for enterprise deployment and scale-up. This comprehensive research encompasses 32 in-depth interviews and an online survey with 9,000 respondents surveys filled out by, both decision-makers and employees, covering virtually all industries across 15 markets. It's that time again—another quarterly financial report is out! 📊 Ericsson president and CEO Börje Ekholm shared insights on the company's performance, highlighting both challenges and positive developments. Despite a 19% decrease in network equipment sales compared to the previous year, Ericsson's gross margins, excluding restructuring charges, exceeded market expectations, reaching 42.7%. Notably, net income saw a substantial improvement, rising to SEK 2.6 billion from SEK 1.6 billion year-over-year. 📈 Looking ahead, Ericsson anticipates a stabilization in sales during the second half of the year, driven by recent contract wins and the normalization of customer inventory levels in North America. Moreover, the company expects improved margins in the coming months, thanks to its enhanced business mix. We asked Christer Boberg, head of Technology and Strategy, Global Network Platform for Ericsson, what he sees in the future of the connected car industry. He answered, "From the Ericsson side, we see that we obviously can't build different networks for different appliances and so it's important that what we drive now with AECC is also applicable for other industries. That is one of the key things also in AECC: we start now with connected cars, and going forward connected vehicles in general, but it's actually something that we believe will be beneficial for the whole connected industry." Connectivity can be used in unexpected ways with great value for society. For example Microwave links can be found wherever there are cell towers and base stations, and in total there are several million links in operation around the world. Each of these can function both as a transmitter for mobile connectivity and as a rain gauge.   With this microwave data, 3 Sverige and Ericsson enable SMHI (Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) to create a real-time map showing how much it rains in different places, something that is not currently possible with traditional weather radar systems. With more accurate data, this can contribute to early warnings for floods and extreme weather and to optimize cities' water systems.   Looking forward to following this project and how it develops. It was a wonderful to participate as a keynote speaker Stockholm Tech Show yesterday. It was clear how the ICT sector is having a positive impact on society and there are even more opportunities for the future.   In Sweden, calculations show that the use of 5G has the potential to contribute to an increase in Sweden's GDP of about SEK 126 billion per year, which corresponds to over two percent of the country's total GDP, according to TechSverige.   How do we make that a reality? How do we make Sweden an international frontrunner of digitization? There are several aspects to it, but one that is vital is the need to roll out 5G at a faster pace. 5G Standalone mid-band holds the key to transforming industries, generating new revenue streams, and unlocking unprecedented applications. This is when we can realize the full benefits of digitization and thereby ensure innovation, competitiveness, and leadership going forward.   For me personally, the vast potential that lies within 5G in terms of economic growth, green transition and a platform for innovation are main drivers for working in this industry.   Thank you Stockholm Tech Show for a great event!   #Ericsson #StockholmTechShow #5G

#TechNews Private and public 5G integrated on DAS in CBRS – in Nokia/Corning combo product Finnish vendor Nokia’s private 4G/5G DAC system has been validated by UK-based IT solutions provider Black Box on a DAS setup from US-based Corning. The project paves the way for dual public and private 4G/5G networks using shared spectrum on traditional indoor radio infrastructure, the trio said. It focuses on the shared CBRS band (3.55-3.7 GHz) in the US. Black Box noted the additional support for Wi-Fi in the Nokia DAC system. The three companies suggested their work eliminates the need to deploy separate infrastructure for CBRS-based private networks and public cellular services, thereby reducing both the cost and complexity of deploying and maintaining indoor 4G/5G connectivity for twin purposes. They said it is relevant to cellular deployments in various sectors, including the healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, and hospitality industries. Research from Ericsson highlights the significant growth in data usage at arena venues, emphasizing the need for high-performance, reliable mobile coverage to meet fans' expectations. The projected increase in the smart stadium market from €13.1bn in 2023 to €31.7bn by 2028 underscores the lucrative opportunities for service providers to enhance networks and ensure seamless connectivity for subscribers. Notably, the influence of the 5G experience in critical locations like stadiums and arenas is shaping consumer decisions, with fans facing connectivity issues being three times more likely to switch service providers within six months. This underscores the importance of delivering an exceptional mobile experience in live event settings.
