☀ Summer vacations are around the corner but before that we would like to leave you with some food for thought if you are thinking about getting an EPD or an LCA.    Following the publication of the EPD we did for Potmix Products AB, we asked Marcus Ansala, the managing director of Potmix, for some insights into the process. 💡    ❓ What do you see as the biggest value of having an EPD?   USP (unique selling proposition) for the product.    ❓ How did you experience the process of getting an EPD? Which step was the most challenging for you?   The process was pretty straightforward and efficient. Most challenging was determining cost-to-benefit of getting it in the first place.     ❓ Do you see any longer-term impacts for your business related to the EPD?   The findings of the LCA have confirmed some plans of changing our manufacturing process to be more sustainable.    We at Xylo Sweden found it rewarding to have a continuous dialogue with Potmix and we look forward to seeing their product portfolio develop over time. Potmix Products AB have recently published their first #EnvironmentalProductDeclaration – and we could not be happier that they chose us as their partner! 🎉 The EPD covers two of their asphalt repair materials, Asphalt BIO50 and Asphalt Reactive, and is published through EPD International AB. What is the right recipe for the future? 🔮 We attended an event hosted by Polarbröd AB at the end of May and enjoyed a series of project presentations accompanied by a delicious meal. Polarbröd’s initiative #Framtidsreceptet (”recipe for the future”) was focused on creating more sustainable mealtimes and food solutions. The initiative invited individuals to submit their innovative ideas that contribute to solving the proposed problem, and in collaboration with MTF Labs helped them develop their idea into a prototype presented at the final event. 📣 The suggestions ranged from tools for re-sealing food jars to algae home-growing kits and documentaries on food systems – good luck to all the innovators with the development of their ideas! 🍀 We often talk about sustainability reporting and assessments, but these are of course just the foundations for informing the actual #decarbonisation work. 💡Have you seen the new Implementation Guidance documents from EFRAG? 💡 There's been a resounding need among companies affected by the #CSRD for guidance and support regarding the implementation of the directive. The schedules are tight and with the EU countries rushing to meet the transposition deadline in July, there are still many uncertainties regarding the national requirements for auditing processes, penalties for non-compliance, transitional allowances for data gaps and so on. 🚦 However, these three documents provide useful insights into undertaking the double materiality assessment, engaging with value chains and collecting information needed to fill out the #ESRS datapoint requirements. The companies who have already started their CSRD journey tend to highlight two things - start ASAP ⏰ and maintain a positive attitude (the process is not that scary!) and we can only agree. What’s the latest on circular textiles? 🧵🦺👚🛋️ Last week we were attending the closing conference of the CITEX project (circular textile innovations) at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden in Stockholm. The aim of the three-year project financed by BioInnovation is to contribute to a circular, non-toxic, and bio-based textile value chain in Sweden. The day was filled with informative insights from the project’s main subprojects, focusing on innovative fiber blends and yarn spinning techniques, chemical recycling of regenerated fibers, and mechanical textile recycling in Sweden. 🧶🪡 Among the event speakers were representatives from RISE, IVL, The Loop Factory, TreeToTextile, TEKO, Sveriges Textil- och Modeföretag, H&M and others. The new ISO - International Organization for Standardization standards on #CircularEconomy have been published! 👏🎈 The new family of standards brings the much-expected formalised frameworks on circular economy (CE)♻️ and will help organisations in assessing, measuring, communicating, and implementing CE principles in their business models. 💡 Just to start off, here is the #definition of the circular economy (From ISO 59004:2024): "economic system (3.1.2) that uses a systemic approach to maintain a circular flow of resources (3.1.6), by recovering, retaining or adding to their value (3.1.7), while contributing to sustainable development (3.1.11) Note 1 to entry: Resources  (3.1.5) can be considered concerning both stocks and flows. In February 2024, #ISO issued a climate-related amendment to 31 existing management system standards. 🔎 This includes popular management systems such as #ISO14001 (environmental management system) and #ISO9001 (quality management system) and many others, link is attached in the comments. 📚 To honour ISO’s commitment to the Paris agreement, the amendment requires the organisations to assess the materiality of climate change for their business operations. What does this mean for companies with implemented management systems affected by the amendment? 🧩  Climate considerations must be included as an important factor affecting business (for example, related to existing or upcoming climate legislation, changes in preferences affecting demand, supply chain disruptions).  🧩  Climate change-related requirements can be included in individual management systems (such as calculations of organisation’s carbon footprint). 🧩  Further push in the direction of contemporary sustainability reporting – identification of risks and opportunities related to climate. 📮 Are you looking for sustainability guides to help you on your sustainability journey?
