Motatos supports the sustainable reform of the world's food system. We’re a different kind of food store; an e-commerce bringing together heroes to shape a waste-free, healthy and connected future of food. Heroes come in all shapes and forms these days. They are customers and they work for our suppliers. And a fair number of them work for Motatos. Since the founding year 2014, Motatos has successfully entered six European markets and together, our customers have saved over 65 000 tonnes of food and consumer products.

    Spicy alert! Our ‘Sweden’s Oldest Spice’ competition (and Anna) is featured on TV4 news today🌶🧂📺 What’s the buzz? We’re on the hunt for Sweden’s oldest spice to help reduce food waste. And we’ll cook with the winning spice🧑🍳 Why does this matter? Tons of food is wasted just because it passed its best-before date, which is unnecessary. Food often lasts long after this date; the label only guarantees quality, not safety. With this competition, we want to encourage people to use their senses—look, smell, and taste—to avoid waste. This way, we can save both food and money (our favorite things to save)! Join the competition: 1. Check your spice rack for old spices. 2. Snap a pic of the best-before date. 3. Email it to krydda@matsmart.se and tell us where in Sweden you found it. You could win 1000 SEK to shop with us and see your spice used in a special dish🍜 More details are on our site!     Curious about what our Regional Director for DACH, Dominique Ertl, has been up to lately (besides saving food, of course)? She’s been busy sharing her ideas in Tagesspiegel Background and FOCUS online on how Germany can tackle its massive food waste problem🍜🥬🥫 Spoiler alert: her ideas can be adopted by any country! Dominique's top recommendations? Germany should be at the forefront, setting legally binding food waste reduction targets to cut its food waste by 2030 in line with the EU Commission’s recommendations. Additionally, regular supermarkets should nudge customers to choose products nearing their expiration dates first, then complement those saved goodies with their usual picks.     Why are RetailNews and Food Supply reporting that our Danish site had an 8000% increase? Turns out Danes have taken the Defence Minister’s advice to heart and are stocking up their pantries🥫🥫 Here’s the deal: One and a half weeks ago, the Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen advised the public, in collaboration with Beredskabsstyrelsen, to ensure they can sustain themselves for three days during crises by keeping essential supplies at home—food, water, and medicine. Since then, our organic traffic from those who searched for 'dåsemad' (Danish for canned food) or similar terms on Google has increased by 8150%. To quote our E-commerce Manager, Luise Mikkelsen, prepping food is literally flying off our digital shelves, with a sales increase of 138%.     Step into a heartwarming strawberry fairy tale, perfectly timed with midsummer just around the corner🍓🍓 Recently, 19 tonnes of strawberries were at risk of being wasted because they were transported at 8°C instead of the ideal 4°C. Nuts! But fear not—Rscued, the fruit-saving company that turns at-risk fruit into delicious juice, sprung into action. With their speedy approach, they whipped up a brand-new delight in just 9 days—Strawberry Lemonade (yes we know, sounds almost too yummy to be true)! But that’s not all. Rscued needed a hand getting this yummy lemonade to our customers because, as they say, no strawberries are truly saved until they're enjoyed. So they called us, Granngården AB, and Strawberry (how fitting), and asked for our help. Of course, we said YES! Missing out on saving strawberries isn't our cup of tea. Make sure to watch for it on our site, at Granngården AB's stores, and Strawberry's breakfast buffets in just three weeks.     Milestone alert! We are thrilled and proud to unveil our first-ever combined annual and sustainability report—or impact report, as we like to call it. Not only is the report itself a milestone, but it also contains a significant achievement: in 2023, our revenue surpassed the magical one billion Swedish kronor (!!) mark💥 But that's not all. Last year, we also recirculated over 21,000 tons of food and consumer products, saving more than 19,000 tons of CO2e from being needlessly emitted. None of this would be possible without our 192 colleagues, 780 FMCG suppliers, 149 warehouse robots, and 750,000 customers, who enable us to save food every single day. Hats off to everyone!
