  • World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) hosts Southwest Indian Ocean Region Early Warning System for Floods (SWIO EWS-F) and Flash Flood Guidance System (SWIOFFGS) Workshop in Seychelles. We're excited to announce that the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in partnership with USAID/BHA, NOAA, NWS, HRC, and the Seychelles Meteorological Authority (SMA), is hosting a workshop on the Southwest Indian Ocean Early Warning System for Flood (SWIO EWS-F) and Flash Flood Guidance System (SWIOFFGS) at the Savoy Hotel, Beau Vallon, Seychelles. 📅 Dates: SWIO EWS-F: 2nd - 3rd July 2024 SWIOFFGS: 4th - 5th July 2024 Participants from Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Seychelles will join representatives from the National Meteorology and Hydrology Services (NMHS), Disaster Risk Management, and Water Resources sections to discuss and initiate the implementation of the EWS-F and FFGS projects. Key Objectives: Initiate the implementation of EWS-F and FFGS projects Achieve consensus on the work plan for EWS-F Start the FFGS data discovery process This workshop will enhance the capacity of NMHSs to issue effective flash flood warnings and alerts, helping to save lives and properties, particularly in coastal areas prone to flash floods. #FloodSafety #EarlyWarningSystems #DisasterManagement #WMO #Seychelles #SWIOFFGS

VACANCY Engineer (B4) – 1 Post Salary: Depending on qualification and experience plus Scheme of Service allowances. Scope of Work: Install complex automatic weather stations, telecommunication systems, and computer-based systems for the organization. Assist Senior Engineer in planning, designing, improving, and modifying data acquisition networks. Conduct market research to purchase equipment for specific meteorological purposes. Assist Senior Engineer in managing and implementing projects involving significant financial, equipment, staff resources, and technical complexity. Diagnose instruments and equipment faults logically by observing symptoms and systematically rectify their causes. Track and trace sources of errors in measurement and ensure that instruments are maintained to standards and calibrated to minimize systematic errors. Minimum Post Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic/Telecommunication and Computer Engineering with five years’ satisfactory work experience. Other Prerequisites: Candidate should possess a driving license. Must be committed, reliable, and can organize and work effectively without constant supervision and under pressure at times. Must maintain a good pattern of punctuality, discipline, and respectability. Able to work in a team and interact well with other coworkers.
