Accepting PhD Students
Yusra Suedi joined the University of Manchester in 2023 as a Lecturer in International Law. Prior to this, she was a Fellow in Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She holds a doctorate in Public International Law from the University of Geneva for her manuscript entitled The Individual in the Law and Practice of the International Court of Justice (forthcoming with Cambridge University Press).
Yusra is a generalist teaching and researching in all areas of international law. However, her most recent research focuses on international dispute settlement, human rights and climate change/environmental law. Her current research project focuses on public interests in international dispute settlement, examining the extent to which international courts and tribunals have been receptive to increasing cases with public interest dimensions. Her work has been published in journals such as The Law and Practice of International Courts and Tribunals and the Leiden Journal of International Law.
Yusra actively practices international law. She has previously worked for the United Nations Office in Geneva, the International Law Commission, the Institut Du Droit International, the International Labour Organization Administrative Tribunal and the International Court of Justice. She has also assisted counsel acting for governments and organisations before the International Court of Justice.
She is a member of the Diversity and Advisory Body and Co-Convenor of the Interest Group on International Courts and Tribunals, both within the European Society of International Law. She is also a Contributing Editor to CILDialogues Blog run by the Centre for International Law of the National University of Singapore.
At the University of Manchester, Yusra is the Director of International Law LLM/MA Programmes and co-directs the Manchester International Law Centre. She teaches on the LLB course ‘Law in a Global Context’, and LLM/MA courses ‘Global Law-Making’, 'International Courts and Human Rights', and 'Research Skills Workshops' for dissertations. She is accepting PhD supervision in areas of her expertise.
