Personal profile

Overview

I finished my first degree, Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, at BAU, Lebanon with a GPA of 3.95/4 as the top student. My interest in renewable energy in general and specifically in solar PV cells has driven me to come to the UK and do a masters degree at the University of Manchester. I was awarded the best student prize for the best overall performance in the unit MSc "Renewable Energy and Clean Technology". Subsequently, I was awarded an MSc Departmental Scholarship to do my PhD. My project titled "Degradation Mechanisms in Silicon PV cells" has to do with improving the efficiency of silicon-based solar cells and thus making use of more solar energy and decreasing the CO2 emission worldwide.  My supervisor is Prof Matthew Halsall and I work with other extraordinary people in my research group including Prof Anthony Peaker, Dr Vladimir Markevich, Dr Iain Crowe and Dr. Ian Hawkins.

I'm currently investigating how differently doped silicon crystals perform under field conditions. The aim is to identify the mechanism responsible for the degradation of minority carrier lifetime and then devise methods to mitigate this effect, thus saving energy loss worldwide.
