I specialise in teaching Arabic literary and cultural Studies,Translation Studies, Modern Languages (MFL) and have worked with organisations, educational, health and cultural, that create platforms of expression for under-represented groups. My work on Iraqi women’s literature was inspired by community work in the UK and living in the Middle East.
In my current initiative titled Landscapes of Future Memory: creatives, literatures and cultures of Middle East North Africa (MENA), I explore and work to raise appreciation of MENA literatures moving across languages from spaces which may be literally disappearing or risk being overlooked.
My research interests include Iraqi and Arab women’s writing, Palestinian and other exilic literatures, postcolonial literary studies and intersectional feminist translation theories. I am co-editor for New Voices in Translation Studies, which is sponsored by International Association of Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS)/Chula University, Thailand.
* ‘Landscapes of Future Memory – Creatives, Literatures and Cultures of the Middle East and North Africa’ - initiative which documents, researches and platforms MENA creatives, literatures and cultures at risk of disappearance - UoM events supported by Awards for Social Responsibility.
