Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a neuropsychiatric condition characterized by distressing, intrusive thoughts and/or repetitive, compulsive mental or physical acts. It causes symptoms that impair day-to-day living for adult and pediatric patients, sometimes severely. People with OCD have higher rates of mortality compared with unaffected peers. Substantial overlap occurs between OCD and other psychiatric illnesses, making diagnosis and treatment substantially more challenging.
