The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or SAVE Act, would amend the 1993 National Voter Registration Act, known as the “motor voter law,” to require that states obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship from someone before he or she may register to vote.

I must respond to Mike Steffen's letter on Wednesday, July 10. It seems he is getting his information from the American Energy Alliance, an industry organization promoting policies favorable to them. (The quote he included from Thomas Pyle is from the top of their home page.)

I like to read the comments in the opinion section so I can get my daily chuckle. When I read I think to myself that most of these folks must have a terrible life when they think that one party or the other party president really makes a difference. Well it does not as it is the House/Senate…

Bennie Thompson is a political representative for the Democratic Party in the state of Mississippi. This April Mr. Thompson rallied to pass a bill that would deny secret service protection to former POTUS Donald J. Trump a few days after he became a convicted felon.

Joe Biden’s stumbles in the debate don’t in any way lessen the anti-democratic, vengeful and destructive ideology of Donald Trump, MAGA, and the 2025 project. While Mr. Biden’s ideas were poorly communicated on stage, they were ideas and positive ones, with the potential to bring benefit to …

In the past week I have read several articles regarding fines being levied by the Department of Labor on Iowa businesses. Those of us who follow the policy actions of the Iowa Legislature are aware that a year ago a bill was passed and signed by Gov. Reynolds loosening some restrictions on c…

On June 16th there was a very nice article on the Rock Island Arsenal and the Quad-Cities. The article had three reporters listed as contributors to the article. Don't know for sure, but I think they must have been Vietnam War protesters during the war. Because they kicked every Vietnam vet …

“We have the best government money can buy.”- Will Rogers. He famously declared this back in the 1930s, as our beloved national political pundit of the Great Depression. The recent Supreme Court decision concerning Trump’s lack of culpability and their outrageous bestowal of presidential pow…

The United States of today appears to be operating without a true system of belief. “Truth” has become bloviations of the Biden Administration: celebrate that men can become women; celebrate the “diversity” of non-assimilating virtue-less immigrants; celebrate family-destroying gender ideolo…

The Quad-City Times embarrasses itself every time it prints something by John Donald O'Shea. But it's a wonderful opportunity for local writers of letters to the editor to show that many readers are a lot smarter than Judge O'Shea and his MAGA enablers on the Quad-City Times editorial staff.

The Biden administration has taken over 200 actions against the U.S. oil and natural gas industry as energy prices soar. In general, they are making energy harder to produce and more expensive to purchase.

The Iowa Legislature and its leader, Gov. Kim Reynolds, have now been rebuked on at least two laws passed recently — the required arrest of illegal immigrants within the state, and the abuse of workers aged 14 and 15.

The time has come to call out the media regarding election coverage. Balanced coverage is no longer an ideal in this environment. In our time, we have one party, the Democratic, that is relatively conventional in its objective. However, the other party is an anomaly. To this lay professional…

Judge O’Shea’s presidential debate reflection considered the trustworthiness of the participants. Because he shared his opinion, disagreement isn’t appropriate. Attempting to appear impartial Mr. O’Shea chose to leave out of his analysis the larger picture of both of these candidates reflect…

This may have been the saddest 4th of July I can recall. Ironically, on a day we celebrated how our ancestors declared independence, choosing democracy over monarchy, we are living through a national nightmare and may be on the verge of losing the freedoms for which our ancestors gave their lives.
