Update: The driver of a vehicle that crashed Monday in the area of SW 35th Street and Forest Grove Road in LeClaire has been identified as Vincent Holst, 38, of East Moline.
A LeClaire police officer discovered a fatal crash early Monday.
The officer, just before 5 a.m., came upon a white 2013 Honda Pilot at the T-intersection of Forest Grove Road and Southwest 35th Street, according to a news release issued by the Scott County Sheriff's Office. The Pilot had hit a tree.
Police found the driver, a man from East Moline, slumped over the steering wheel, the release states. They initially attempted life-saving efforts, but the man was eventually pronounced dead. The sheriff's office has not yet released his name.
Initial investigation indicated the Honda did not yield at the intersection's stop sign, traveled through the intersection and hit the tree, the release states. Investigators think he was not wearing his seatbelt.
The crash remained under investigation Monday, according to the new release.
