The online MBA at Washington State’s Carson College of Business is a 100% online program that’s grounded in a mission of providing accessible education for all.
“In service to our land grant mission, the MBA is designed to provide opportunity to students in all walks of life including, but not limited to: those actively serving in the military, student veterans, parents, recent college graduates, international students, and full-time career students,” Selk says. “With the close connection to faculty, student support, peers and alumni, MBA students are a part of the Cougar Community regardless of their geographic location.”
100% Online
What makes the Carson OMBA unique is that it is truly 100% online. With no residency requirement, students can earn their degree on their own time and from wherever they want. The school does, however, have various opportunities for students to meet in-person.
“An online program creates greater inclusivity for those individuals who seek a quality business degree and are looking for one that will accommodate their commitments and schedules,” Selk says. “Additionally, the online Carson College of Business MBA has rolling admissions dates which allow prospective students the flexibility of starting when they are ready.”
If students want an in-person experience, they can take part in optional residencies that allow them to study abroad in countries such as Estonia, Finland, Chile, China, Vietnam to name a few.

The Carson OMBA program can be completed in about 22 months. The program is set up to allow students to start nine times per year.

The Curriculum
The Carson OMBA program can be completed in about 22 months. The program is set up to allow students to start nine times per year.
Carson’s OMBA curriculum consists of the core courses of a quality AACSB-accredited program, covering fundamental topics such as data analysis, marketing, operations management and more.
Its most recent introductory course, Strategic Planning for Personal and Program Success, allows students to get familiar with the course space, course structure, and transitioning into the role of a working professional MBA student.
Additionally, Carson OMBAs take three electives through which they can specialize in one of four concentrations: Hospitality Business Management, Finance, International Business, or Marketing.
In the third semester, students take part in the Capstone Project, in which they develop a full business plan, synthesizing the information they’ve learned throughout their MBA education.
Mission-Driven Education
As a land-grant university, the Carson College of Business at Washington State prides itself in its mission-driven education with a heavy emphasis on transformational student experiences and pushing the frontiers of knowledge.
“We are a mission-driven college of business, that is focused on becoming the model school of business for tomorrow’s land-grant university,” Selk says. “This challenges us to examine what we’ve done well in the past, the effectiveness of what we do now, and what we should strive for in delivering future business education.”
