📚 STEM: Bridging the gap between theory and practice 👷♀️   🚀 On June 26, Artelia Philippines was honoured to welcome Center for Integrated STEM Education (CISTEM) to visit our office as part of their STEM Nexus Program.   🎓 CISTEM amplifies STEM education by promoting collaboration across research institutions and industry actors. CISTEM has gathered 17 STEM teachers from across the Philippines, and during the week of June 24-28, CISTEM visited various companies in the STEM industry.   💡 The goal is to provide an immersive experience and to inspire teachers to learn from the real-world scenarios faced in the STEM industry. This shall bridge the gap between theory and practice by exposing the teachers to industry practices and promoting the skills needed for the future workforce. The STEM teachers will utilize these experiences to bring back to their classrooms and to share with their fellow teachers!   🏗️ During the visit, the STEM teachers had the opportunity to connect and learn from Artelia’s engineers led by Hallena Encio (Team Leader for Roads in the Department of Roads & Utilities) and Neil Duldulao (Head of Department for Structural in BU-Nordics).   👩💻 Hallena and Neil explained their job function and typical tasks. They also facilitated learning sessions with hands-on activities for the teachers to learn the basics of AutoCAD for road designs and the math utilized to calculate structural load.   🤝 Artelia Philippines is happy to support CISTEM’s vision to make STEM more inclusive and accessible.

🌲Tree Planting Day with Artelia Philippines 🌳   🌱 We partnered with Make-A-Difference Travel and visited their community at Mount Purro Nature Reserve in Antipolo, Rizal. The day started with an introduction to the effects of climate change in the Philippines, followed by the importance of planting trees to avoid floods and to support the livelihoods of the local Dumagat tribe.   ⛰️ Afterwards the group explored the nearby mountainous area and hiked to Malvar’s Peak, 419 meters above sea level! On the descent, the group created 93 seed postings - including seedlings of jackfruit, curry plant, and narra. These will later be planted once the soil is wet enough to ensure the survival of the seeds.   🌿 Tree planting improves the ability of our forests to sequester carbon, helps to mitigate the impacts of climate change, and improves air quality. Trees play a key role in capturing rainwater and reducing the risk of natural disasters like floods and landslides. ☔ TrashTag Challenge with Artelia Philippines ♻️   Artelia Philippines Team participated in the Fondation Artelia's TrashTag Challenge last 06 June 2024! The team braved the rainy weather to collect trash near the Artelia Office, as well as on a remote project site near the river. 🌞 Bringing light and electricity to rural families with ATE Co in Rizal ⚡ On May 9-10, two volunteers, Ralph Uy from Artelia Philippines and Quan Nguyen from Artelia Vietnam, embarked on a trip to Access to Energy (ATE Co) in Rizal. 🔋 ATE Co is an NGO in Metro Manila, Rizal, Quezon, and Samar, where they provide solar home kits to communities that don’t have access to the electricity grid. Majority of ATE Co’s beneficiaries are vulnerable, earning less than $5 per day, and 65% are women. The solar home kits come with solar panels, batteries, and appliances for everyday household needs, such as lights, charges, TVs, and fridges. This helps the children to study after sunset and enables families to start micro-businesses such as hairdressers, karenderias, sari-sari stores, and others. 🌄 On the first day of the mission, the volunteers traveled to Brgy. Sta. Ines. Here the volunteers conducted interviews with households that utilize ATE Co’s solar home kits to understand their usage of it, and how it has brought positive impact to their lives. On the second day of the mission, the volunteers used the information shared during the interviews to conduct presentations targeted to ATE Co staff and beneficiaries. 🛠️ The trainings provided by the volunteers included sustainability, circular practices, and maintenance and repair of solar technology and batteries. The volunteers shared some best practices on how to install and main solar panels and batteries to ensure a long lifespan of the equipment. To conclude the mission, volunteers also had the chance to provide training to beneficiaries with fun games. 💟 Artelia Philippines is glad to contribute to development and social progress by sharing the expertise of our volunteers. 🌟 Networking for Social Impact with Youth Inclusion Network (YIN) 🧑🏻🤝🧑🏻 Last week on April 25, Artelia Philippines had the honor together with the NGO Bantu Philippines to share the lessons learned from the joint program “Sustainable Youth Development” (SYD). Artelia and Bantu were invited as speakers at YIN’s launch of the platform “YINnovation in Inclusion”, a dynamic platform aiming to showcase a variety of inspiring initiatives to foster youth inclusion. The Youth Inclusion Network is a network of 60+ companies committed to work on youth inclusion, fight against exclusion and reduce poverty in general. Young adults need help to get control over their lives, to give them a chance to access decent employment by integration into the corporate world. Hiring these youth is a real opportunity for the companies as they are highly motivated hard workers with good professional skills and positive behaviors. 🙌 At this event, Artelia and Bantu jointly shared the ideas that sparked the launch of SYD and the journey to make it a reality. SYD has been running for two years in 2022 and 2023. To date, 28 Artelia volunteers have given training spread over 14 days, totaling approximately 225 hours. The volunteers have delivered training to 45+ youths from 16-25 years of age, with diverse, challenging backgrounds. 36 of the youth are in employment (73% of participants). 💸 Thank you to Artelia Philippines’ wonderful colleagues for the support and commitment to help give our youth a chance to prosper. 🌟

[#NEWS] 📣 Artelia Philippines partnered with BANTU Ph for the second run of #Sustainable #Youth Development.   The youths attended trainings prepared and conducted by Artelia collaborators and participated in this program with one goal: to acquire skills and abilities to apply for jobs. The program was designed to help them gain confidence in their public speaking, english language skills, and general preparation to gain quality employment.   BANTU Ph will continue supporting the youths with their #JobSearch as well as providing mentoring for youth to tackle typical work conflicts once they do reach employment. 💼   👏 Congratulations to Artelia Philippines collaborators for giving their time and commitment in providing the youths the opportunity to gain knowledge, and helping them achieve their goals and aspirations.
