Multiple sources have confirmed to PEOPLE that the Barbie star and her film producer husband, both 34, are expecting their first baby together. The notoriously private couple has yet to discuss their expanding family themselves, but Robbie has shared some of her thoughts on motherhood in the past.

The couple first met in 2013 on the set of the World War II drama Suite Française. Robbie and Ackerley then married in December 2016 during a private ceremony in Australia's Byron Bay. The two never announced their engagement before their wedding.

In November 2018, Robbie told PORTER magazine that she was "definitely not" ready to have kids, and in January 2019, the actress opened up to Radio Times about the pressure put on women to have babies after marriage. "It made me really angry," she told the Times.

From looking forward to having a big family to parenting puppies with Ackerley, here's everything Robbie has said about motherhood.

She eventually wants to have "tons of children"

Back in June 2016, the Suicide Squad actress spoke about the idea of children publicly for the first time.

"I want TONS of children," Robbie confessed while speaking to Sunday Style. "Well, maybe not too many,” she added with a laugh.

“I grew up in a family of four [kids], so that sounds like a good number. We’ll see what happens; no time soon. I know that once I have kids, they’ll be my priority, so I want to do the family thing later.”

She previously admitted she was "definitely not" ready to have kids, but could see a large family in her future

In November 2018, three years after tying the knot with Ackerley, Robbie shared that she was"definitely not" ready to have kids.

“No! Definitely not,” the actress told PORTER magazine in its Winter Escape issue when asked if she was ready to have children at the time.

“Three days ago, my husband stopped by a dog shelter on the way back from the airport, and we now have a pitbull puppy,” she shared. “We already have a 2-year-old who still acts like a puppy. I love him but he’s a handful and for the last three days I haven’t slept.”

When the Mary Queen of Scots actress suggested to her husband that they only foster the new puppy “for the week,” she said he was adamantly against it.

“My husband’s saying, ‘No! We’re keeping her,’ and I’m saying, ‘We absolutely cannot and if anything, you are now cementing in my mind that we cannot have kids. I can’t cope with two puppies, let alone children!'” Robbie said.

The I, Tonya star then admitted she was open to having children in the future. “If I’m looking into my future 30 years from now, I want to see a big Christmas dinner with tons of kids there,” she said. “But definitely not at the moment. That’s 100 percent certain.”

In a January 2019 interview with Radio Times, Robbie opened up about the pressure put on women to have children, saying that she felt sympathy for her Mary Queen of Scots character Queen Elizabeth I, who never produced an heir.

“It made me really angry,” she told the Times, according to multiple outlets. “How dare some old guy dictate what I can and can’t do when it comes to motherhood or my own body? Unfortunately, it’s a conversation we’re still having.”

“I got married, and the first question in almost every interview is, ‘Babies? When are you having one?’ I’m so angry that there’s this social contract,” the actress said. “You’re married, now have a baby. Don’t presume. I’ll do what I’m going to do.”
