Portland Business Journal reports that James Beard Award-winning chef Naomi Pomeroy is hosting a summer dinner series called Garden Party with restaurateur Luke Dirks. The 36-person communal dinner features a prix fixe menu and is priced at $95 a person. The dinner series is hosted on the site of her forthcoming restaurant, which is slated to open fall 2024 in the former Woodsman Tavern space. Reservations for Garden Party are available through Resy.

Pomeroy rose to acclaim in Portland for her now-closed restaurants, Beast and Ripe Cooperative. Currently, she also operates the frozen custard shop Cornet Custard with pastry chef Mika Paredes.

A new bar from the Thunderbird team

The owners behind popular Portland bar Thunderbird have opened their next project along Foster Road in SE Portland. Bruno’s, a new neighborhood cocktail bar, debuted on June 21 during the Foster Summer Soirée. The menu at the bar offers classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned, a daiquiri, and a margarita, plus house drinks like the Chelsea Morning Martini with Japanese roasted rice tea vodka. A small menu of bar bites including wings, whipped feta dip, and steak frites are also available.

Popular Portland sports bar closed after more than 40 years

Bridgetown Bites reports that the Wooden Chicken Pub closed its doors permanently on June 30. The pub announced the closure just days prior on June 24 via a post on social media, but did not explain what led to the announcement. The Wooden Chicken Pub first opened in 1981 and came to be a beloved sports bar in Northeast Portland. In the comment section of the post on Facebook, longtime guests shared memories of meeting their now partners and watching games at the bar. Eater reached out for comment, but as of the time of publishing, the phone line for the bar has been disabled.
