Oasis is proud to have a Board of Directors that closely understands the needs of our client community—low-income LGBTQ+ immigrants. As volunteers and leaders of our organization, Board members ensure the financial health and stability of Oasis, and weigh in on long-term organizational strategies. Our Board focuses on governance, advising our Executive Director, and helps to raise funds and other resources. In our seven years, Oasis has had to adapt to the global pandemic and operate under fluctuating immigration policies. Despite these changes, we have grown our staff (presently 18 team members), with our headquarters in Berkeley and a second office in Fresno, California. In 2024, our Board approved an operating budget of $2.2 million.

Oasis’ mission is very unique—quality immigration services for queer and trans immigrants with wraparound social services support. And since April 2024, because of our fundraising efforts, our services are free for all of our clients seeking asylum. Our direct legal services benefit clients throughout Northern and Central California, Oregon, and Washington, while our legal training and advocacy work are national.

We are presently looking for leaders who have the capacity to join our dynamic Board of Directors. As our clients have intersecting identities, and as our service model incorporates best practices from both legal and social services, we welcome diverse candidates to apply to join our Board of Directors. This is an opportunity to apply your existing skills and expertise to benefit LGBTQ+ immigrants and to work collaboratively as you learn from, and with, Oasis’ Board of Directors and Executive Director.

Ideal candidates will be deeply invested in our mission, have a demonstrated understanding of how privilege plays a role in their lives, and practice cultural humility. Oasis is seeking individuals with a combination of skills and experiences including finance, board governance, fundraising, and strategic planning. People who have been personally impacted (or who have loved ones impacted) by the immigration system, LGBTQ+ individuals, and People of Color are highly encouraged to apply. Qualified applicants can live anywhere in the United States. Board work is primarily conducted virtually, with the expectation of one in-person meeting each year.
