Retired school worker, 79, accused of sending inappropriate texts and Snapchats to underage child

A now-retired 79-year-old middle school employee has been arrested for allegedly sending inappropriate texts and Snapchat messages to an underage child.

Sue Ann Asch was accused of contacting the minor, who knew her, with the inappropriate material in September, the same month she retired as a paraprofessional at Kalkaska Middle School in Michigan, according to UpNorthLive.

Michigan State Police in Houghton Lake began investigating her after receiving a report that she was texting and messaging the unidentified youth on the social media app, according to MLive.

After the victim was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center in Traverse City, search warrants were obtained for Asch’s home and several electronic devices were seized, police said.

The devices were sent to the State Police Computer Crimes Unit to be analyzed.

Authorities have not released details about the messages.

A felony warrant was issued on Jan. 8 and Asch turned herself in.

She was arraigned Monday on a charge of accosting children for immoral purposes and held at the Kalkaska County Jail on $5,000 bond.

The charge broadly covers indecent acts.

Asch worked at the school district from 2012 until her retirement, Kalkaska Public Schools Superintendent Rick Heitmeyer told UpNorthLive.

He told the outlet that authorities have not contacted him about the investigation into Asch’s alleged actions.
