So, Isiah Thomas … remember that guy? After being mercifully canned by the Knicks when Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni came to town – though of course no one ever quite sure if he really was canned – Thomas took the head coaching job at Florida International in Miami. It was supposed to be tailor-made; even if Isiah wasn’t much of a coach, he’d be able to recruit players to come to the school, all by simply being Isiah. Well, shockingly, it didn’t work out: In a surprise move, FIU fired Isiah this afternoon, saying they, “decided to take the program in a different direction.” (The FIU Website seems to have not yet received the memo.) Isiah’s final tally at FIU: 26 wins, 65 losses. If this news somehow makes you happy, if you feel a certain schadenfreude in Thomas’ dismissal, we feel obliged to point out: He is now unemployed, and Jim Dolan is looking for a coach. Here’s your weekend nightmare fuel!
