ExxonMobil, with partner QatarEnergy, is drilling the Persephone (C-54) wildcat offshore Canada’s Labrador and Newfoundland coast. This new frontier wildcat is testing a number of conventional clastic reservoirs in rifted fault blocks of the Upper Jurassic within the Orphan Basin. It is high cost but has huge follow-on potential, writes Peter Elliott from NVentures Ltd today. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/en47Q2Uc

Om oss
GEO EXPRO is a magazine and online publication with a strong focus on the subsurface aspects of the global oil and gas industry and the energy transition. Our main aim is to report on and provide context to energy-related news where geoscience plays a key role. GEO ExPro Magazine is suitable for everyone interested in the energy sector from a subsurface perspective. and is available in a format that fits your lifestyle; in print, online, and across social media. Each and every issue of GEO ExPro is packed with relevant content, news, and articles to meet the interests of geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and anyone else involved in the exploration and production of oil and gas resources. Our popular columns include, GEO Tourism, Exploration, GEO Physics, Geology, Recent Advances in Technology and many more. Our GEO Lifestyle column launched in 2018 to introduce the industry's first travel & lifestyle column for oil and gas - reaching out to new but relevant audiences within the energy sector. Market research in 2017 reported we had an estimated readership of over 28,000 per issue through print subscriptions, PDF downloads & online article access and content sharing. As well as sharing our latest articles, we provide industry news and comment through our social media channels—making GEO ExPro the first port of call to read emerging geology and geoscience stories that are relevant to you.

New research indicates that polymetallic nodules on the seafloor can create electric currents strong enough to split water into hydrogen and oxygen molecules. The research paper has however already met criticism. In this article Ronny Setså reflects on the research hypothesis and the scrutiny it faces from companies such as The Metals Company who have interests in deep-see mineral mining. Sweden comes third in the list of countries using geothermal energy. From around 1996, the average depth of shallow geothermal boreholes drilled in the country started to increase from around 100 m - limited by compressor capacity - to 200 m today – limited by energy demand. In today’s article, we talk to Signhild Gehlin from Svenskt Geoenergicentrum about the development of technology in Swedish geothermal space. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eybDYdm6

A company based in Perth, Western Australia, believes that natural hydrogen has its origins at the start of the formation of the Earth – and that it is possible to produce it if explored properly. It today’s article we discuss with Vitaly Vidavskiy, Nikolay Larin and Vladimir Vidavskiy from Avalio the presence of natural hydrogen originating from the Earth’s core. “The Cousland former gas field is also particular because it is surrounded by former coal mines. This not only hampers any future seismic acquisition: The mines also form potential sites for the buildup of hydrogen in case of seal integrity issues”. Today’s article summarizes the findings of two geologists indicating that poor quality seismic data (amongst other subsurface issues) of the onshore former Cousland field limits its potential as a safe location for hydrogen storage in Scotland.
