Just launched 📣 Global Salmon Initiative’s annual Sustainability Report! This report, which now includes 11 years of global environmental and social sustainability data, showcases the transformative power of collaboration in driving measurable progress. As members of GSI, we provide consistent reporting on eco-efficiency in feed, sea lice treatment, antibiotic use, and more. While it’s encouraging to see our collective progress, we know there's much more to be done. We are veery happy that Bjørn Kristensen is doing his ph.d. on the first fully integrated marine facility built for the combined production of both salmon and kelp, where the kelp will be grown inside the farm itself. The kelp can then absorb the nutrient salts from the fish, which would otherwise be wasted. The facility in Steigen, is owned by Folla Alger and operated by Cermaq Norway AS. - Getting to do my PhD at a fully integrated marine facility for the co-production of salmon and kelp, where we really get to test theory in practice, is really cool, says Bjørn Kristensen. Together with the project group, he will find out when in the year it pays to put out kelp, and whether there are any positive effects that it grows together with the salmon. 🐟 The project is called AURORA IMTA and headed by SINTEF Ocean. #research #knowledge #kelp #multitrophicaquaculture #IMTA #salmonfarming
