We would love to welcome David Moreira, PhD the ZOLA Electric family.  David has recently joined ZOLA Electric as our VP of Finance and member of the Leadership Team! With a robust background in building all facets of an operating finance effort across accounting, FPA, and capital raising, David brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our organization. David has served in various executive roles, including Chief Financial Officer at Manifesto Market, where he provided financial leadership and spearheaded digital transformation initiatives. Prior to that, he held the position of Director of FP&A Europe at Amazon Inc. (Audible), where he played a pivotal role in budgeting and financial reporting for the EU Senior Leadership teams. Throughout his career, David has demonstrated a strong track record of success, building finance teams, process implementation, leading complex initiatives, and managing end-to-end digitization projects. His experience in the start-up environment, scaling business and ability to navigate diverse business landscapes makes him an incredible addition to the ZOLA organization. David holds a PhD in Finance and Accounting from the University of Economics, Prague, along with a Master's in International Business and is very committed to continuous learning and personal development, having completed courses in Python, Flask, React, JavaScript, C, SQL, and Six Sigma, among others. ZOLA provides energy access to 10+ countries across 3 continents and we appreciate David's diverse experience and his fluency in multiple languages , including Portuguese, English, and Spanish, David's linguistic proficiency reflects his ability to communicate effectively across diverse cultures and regions and his commitment to ensure the Global South achieves Energy Equality. As we approach the end of 2023, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our achievements and share our anticipation for the exciting year ahead in 2024. ZOLA Electric originated from the belief that energy inequality drives severe social and economic strain, born substantially by emerging market communities.  Our mission to deliver affordable and reliable energy began well over a decade ago in the form of delivering solar home systems to rural communities across Tanzania. Through our journey we’ve recognized the need was much broader and includes over 3 billion people and businesses across 80 countries. This is one of the world’s great problems, one that necessitated a paradigm shift and new perspective in addressing. Today, ZOLA has transformed from a product company selling back up systems to homeowners and small businesses into a technology platform that enables community level electrification through Power-as-a-Service (PaaS). Our goal is to enable our customers to build and manage distributed energy networks, delivering community level electrification while building strong, sustainable businesses.  In 2024, we foresee several trends that will shape the landscape of the energy sector: Decentralization: Future trends in renewable energy emphasize decentralization, integrating diverse and resilient sources. Advanced technologies, including smart storage solutions, will be managed by enterprise software driving efficiency across the business model. Energy Renaissance: This paradigm shift towards distributed architecture will empower individuals, businesses, and communities, ushering in a new era of impactful energy infrastructure. Our markets, emerging and developing, will finally achieve grid parity with developing markets, the grids they build will just be built differently. Digitization: Emerging market energy inefficiency spans every aspect of the industry value chain including  customer acquisition, logistics, service, finance and of course energy production and distribution.  In the age of digitization, software and AI, businesses are on the brink of an energy transformation with these trends driving mass efficiency across their business model.    Power as a Service (PaaS): The increasing use of the power-as-a-service model will enable customers to pay for electricity usage through a third-party provider, offering flexibility in energy consumption. ZOLA is positioned to enable and drive all of the trends mentioned above and will in turn achieve our vision of eradicating energy inequality across the globe.
