We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with TotalEnergies to expand clean cooking access to people in and beyond Rwanda! 🤝 The official agreement marking the partnership was signed in Kigali, Rwanda, by Co-Founder and Chief Operations Officer, Laurent Van Houcke, and Total Energies’ VP Commerical Sales and Specialities Africa, christophe jacquet. At Bboxx, we will combine our technology with TotalEnergies' innovative LPG cylinders. The decision to scale up the clean cooking partnership followed a successful Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGo) LPG pilot in Rwanda last year. Bboxx’s Smart Cooking Valve works by locking onto the LPG cylinder and digitally controls customers' gas access based on their mobile money payments. It is rare that families are able to afford a whole gas canister in one upfront payment, so this payment system means that people will have the flexibility to pay for the amount of energy that they use. Currently, 2.4 billion people still rely on traditional cooking methods, such as charcoal and wood burning, which often lead to harmful health effects, often with fatal consequences, particularly for women and children.
