⚡ ”We all need a stable grid to be able to operate. It feels good to play a part in helping to stabilise the grid and support its normal operation. We want to do more, that’s why we’re now looking into the flexibility potential of the new equipment we’re acquiring.” - Johannes Sikström, Head of Process Control, Boliden’s Technology Department 👉 Read the full case study: https://lnkd.in/eAvAkkYb #DemandResponse #Innovation #EnergyTransition

Over ons
Sympower was founded in 2015 with the mission to enable the transition to a fully renewable energy system. We achieve this by unlocking the flexibility of electric assets across industries, from steel smelting to solar panels, electric vehicles to paper production, and maximising the value of this flexibility across energy markets. When the grid is out of balance, we temporarily adjust the power of machines and processes through our advanced and automated demand response capabilities. Flexibility is a vital component of a fully renewable energy system and by providing non-intrusive software solutions, we allow our customers to enhance the value of their electrical assets. We empower traditional industries to become more sustainable and enable the shift from fossil fuels to renewables.

⚡ How do energy grids stay balanced even when demand and supply fluctuate constantly? It's all thanks to Balancing Services! Our new infographic shows how Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Reserves work in balancing services and how various industrial assets can participate in demand response programmes. While specific products can have different names depending on the country and grid operator, the overall mechanism remains the same. We've highlighted potential assets for demand-side flexibility, showing the diverse range that can contribute to grid stability—from batteries and CHPs to pumps and EVs. Do you see your equipment in the list? You could turn it into a new revenue stream by balancing the grid. 👉 Learn more about energy markets: https://lnkd.in/e8BRZnDF 👉 Learn more about earning revenue with #DemandResponse: https://lnkd.in/eys9EKVb ?utm_source=LinkedIn+Post&utm_medium=Article_Infographic2&utm_campaign=17_07_2024 #EnergyFlexibility #EnergyTransition #EnergyMarkets

Monday #DemandResponse Myth Busters! 👻⚡ Demand response programmes offer businesses a chance to earn money by adjusting energy use during peak hours (how awesome is that?!). However, myths still persist about it. Let's explore the reality: ❌ Myth: Demand Response Impacts Deadlines ✅ The Reality: The goal of demand response is to reduce non-critical energy use and use that flexibility to balance grid disturbances. Flexibility services providers, like Sympower, work closely with businesses to identify how many megawatts (MW) they’re able to provide without affecting their core processes. 👉 Learn more about demand response: https://lnkd.in/eNr3Ep5k #EnergyTransition #EnergyFlexibility

EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) names flexibility as a solution to guarantee the security of supply in electricity systems. ⚡ In its new Recommendations and Commitments Report on the Future Challenges of the Electricity System, ACER calls on policymakers to remove barriers and develop market rules supporting the deployment of non-fossil flexibility resources. It also recommends further developing and implementing EU legislation with a clear regulatory framework for demand response and distributed flexibility. In addition, ACER calls on National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) to commit to overcoming regulatory entry barriers for market participation in the several timeframes that decentralised flexible resources and new business models may face. We are very happy to see such a prominent organisation support the deployment of non-fossil flexibility resources and the development of a clear regulatory framework for #DemandResponse and #DistributedFlexibility. These initiatives are crucial for accelerating the #EnergyTransition and ensuring a resilient, sustainable energy future. Removing barriers and creating market rules that support flexible resources will not only enhance grid stability but also unlock opportunities for businesses across Europe to optimise their energy use and generate additional revenue. “Demand-side resources have proven their role, though limited by existing barriers, and will continue to be crucial for security of supply. However, we must act quickly, as we cannot afford further delays in removing these barriers. Eliminating regulatory obstacles to full market access and providing proper economic incentives for demand-side and distributed energy resources will lead to a more cost-effective, reliable, and resilient energy system compared to relying solely on centralised traditional resources.” - Reza Baradar, Senior Public & Regulatory Affairs Advisor, Sympower 👉 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/dzmZytfd

⚡ “Solar PV is on a mission to support Europe to become the most secure, cleanest and most prosperous continent in the world. [But], this is only possible if we are embarking on a flexibility revolution.” - Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO, SolarPower Europe Great article published by Euronews in collaboration with SolarPower Europe and Iberdrola! Here are the key takeaways: 📈 #Solar power in Europe has grown from 1 GW in 2004 to 269 GW in 2023. By 2030, The EU aims to reach 750 GW of installed solar generation. This ambitious target demands a massive growth in system’s flexibility and #electrification. ☀️ SolarPower Europe’s Mission Solar 2040 outlines three future scenarios. Based on the dream scenario (solar, flexibility and electrification), we could expect: - Significant Capacity Increase: Europe could not only reach the 750GW target, but go as far as 1.2 TW of installed solar power by 2030 and surpass 2.4 TW by 2040 - Substantial CO2 Reductions: Up to 151 million tonnes of CO2 could be reduced annually by 2030 and as much as 555 million tonnes by 2040 - Cost Savings: Annual energy system cost savings are projected at €160 billion by 2040. In this scenario, electricity costs across Europe would drop by 25% by 2030 and 33% by 2040 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gzJx_gpx #EnergyTransition

⚡ "Demand Response is not a futuristic business model. It exists already, and it works." Last month, our Strategy and Innovation Director, Olivia S., participated in a panel discussion centered around flexibility and customer engagement during European Sustainable Energy Week 2024. Olivia discussed: 📈 The business model for #DemandResponse and flexibility: Industries participating in flexibility services can earn 5-30% of extra revenues compared to their energy bills. 🚧 Main barriers to participation — What is "Flex Fear" and what can we do about it? 🚀 Best practices and key enablers of Demand-side Flexibility. "What I find very powerful with Demand Response is that it uses the already existing infrastructure. It is way more cost-efficient than building new batteries or power plants - even though we need both. Demand Response can also be an enabler of electrification. When you look at the cost of producing heat with a gas boiler, it's around 80 Euros per MW/h. With an e-boiler, it's around 120 Euros per MW/h, but when you consider the revenues coming from flexibility, the effective cost for the e-boiler goes down to 80 Euros per MW/h." - Olivia S.
