Another impactful collaboration ✨ Our innovator SPINNOVA® and ECCO have signed a Letter of Intent regarding plans for their joint venture company, Respin. 🤝 This year, Respin has achieved promising results in developing fibre made from leather waste. ECCO has successfully created a prototype shoe using fibre from Respin’s pilot line, produced with our innovator’s technology. The brand plans to launch a product featuring the fibre by the end of the first quarter of 2025. “I am proud of the progress we have made with Respin’s fibre quality, which now meets commercial requirements and demonstrates the versatility of the Spinnova technology, which can use multiple different feedstocks, including protein-based leather waste. We now have a clear plan with ECCO for the next steps to reach the decision for scaling the leather waste-based fibre production” – Tuomas Oijala, CEO of SPINNOVA®. Fashion for Good Doubles Down on Pioneering Footwear Innovation! 👟♻️ We are thrilled to announce an ambitious new initiative aimed at scouting, accelerating and validating the next generation of footwear innovations. Together with industry leaders like adidas, Inditex, On, PVH Corp., Reformation, Target, and Zalando, we are dedicated to driving footwear circularity across the supply chain, from materials to end of use. We aim to drive four key work streams: 1️⃣ Materials: Scouting and validating sustainable alternatives for footwear materials including TPU, PU, EVA, Leather, and Rubber 2️⃣ Design: Defining circular design criteria in the footwear space and collectively driving guidelines to build a circular infrastructure 3️⃣ End of Use (Sorting, Disassembly, & Recycling): Developing a comprehensive data set on post-consumer footwear waste flows, including (non-)rewearable fractions, volumes, construction and composition. As well as scouting and validating solutions for repair, end-of-use, disassembly, and recycling of footwear 4️⃣ Traceability: Laying the foundation by amalgamating a footwear traceability data protocol to build traceability for evidence to substantiate sustainability claims We are inspired to keep driving the industry toward the implementation and scaling of critical innovations. Thank you adidas, Inditex, On, PVH Corp., Reformation, Target, and Zalando for your partnership and commitment to Closing the Footwear Loop. Are you an innovator in the Footwear Innovation space and can help us tackle one of these key four workstreams: https://lnkd.in/eJM_NPcA Read more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/eV_MPAc7 #sustainablefashion #sustainability #SustainableSolutions #ImpactfulInnovation #footwear #circularity #innovation #collaboration Sophie van Kol Georgia Parker

Traditional dyeing processes, while effective in producing vivid colours and intricate patterns, have long been marred by significant environmental drawbacks, including excessive water consumption and pollution. 🎨 Did you know that Carbon Black, a fossil fuel-based pigment used in inks, textiles, and more, is highly detrimental to the environment? Annually, about 8.1 million tons of carbon black is produced by burning heavy oil or natural gas, significantly contributing to CO2 emissions. Recent innovations by our innovators — Nature Coatings and Living Ink — have found a way to create this black pigment by using biobased materials instead. 🪵 Nature Coatings transforms pre-consumer industrial wood waste from the lumber, paper, furniture, and flooring industries into high-performing black pigments using a closed-loop, toxin-free process. 🦠 Living Ink converts waste microalgae from algae farms into bio-based pigments through an exclusive heating process, turning leftover algae biomass into vibrant black colourants. Learn more about the innovators’ stories, technologies, challenges and successes and see how the innovations are driving tangible change in the industry.
