The study confirms that adult #female #lungs are generally 10-12% smaller in volume than #males of the same height and age. This volume difference is distributed between the rib cage and diaphragm-abdomen compartments. - Females have smaller radial #rib #cage dimensions compared to males of the same height. - Females exhibit a greater inclination of the ribs. - The #diaphragm dome position relative to the spine is comparable between sexes, but females have a shorter diaphragm length. Female subjects show a greater inspiratory rib cage muscle contribution during resting breathing, likely due to the increased rib inclination. This greater rib inclination allows for greater volume expansion in the female rib cage. Traveling from the alveoli to capillary blood, gases must pass through alveolar surfactant, alveolar epithelium, basement membrane, and capillary endothelium. Although the question “How many #alveoli are in the #human #lung?” seems very simple, it is difficult to answer in practice. This is largely because alveoli are not discrete, separate particles but rather a set of open saccules or pronounced surface irregularities with openings making them impossible to define unambiguously in single histologic sections. With a project 𝗯𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗳 €𝟰.𝟵 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻, it involves a close collaboration between e.g.: Eindhoven University of Technology, Catharina Hospital Eindhoven, Philips Benelux, and Deep Breath 🫁. 👉 The project is expected to run for five years and will involve the participation of multiple engineering and clinical experts, including three core e/MTIC partners and four additional private parties. 👉 PERSEUS aims to utilize ongoing e/MTIC projects and contribute to the large-scale e/MTIC healthcare data collection infrastructure. 👉 This project sets a new standard in disease management and treatment, with the potential to impact quality of life at significantly lower costs. #Mechanical ventilation is often employed as partial ventilatory support 🫁where both the #patient and the ventilator work together. The ventilator settings should be adjusted to maintain a harmonious patient-ventilator interaction. However, this balance is often altered by many factors able to generate a #patient-ventilator #asynchrony (PVA). Mechanical ventilation represents the main life-supporting treatment in critically ill patients. However, it is associated with various complications, such as ventilator-associated #pneumonia, ventilator-induced lung injury (#VILI), ventilation-induced diaphragm dysfunction, and patient-ventilator asynchrony (#PVA). The ventilator #graphics #monitoring is one of the most important instruments available for #doctors and nurses.
