Did you know Orbia is investing over $1 billion in developing advanced battery materials to accelerate the EV transition? EVs are essential to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for decarbonization and the energy transition, requiring continuous improvement and growth of the EV battery supply chain. Orbia is solving these challenges while building the battery materials supply chain in North America. For example: • We received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for a planned project to build the first LiPF6 manufacturing plant in North America. LiPF6 is critical electrolyte salt that is used in all lithium-ion batteries. Our plant’s manufacturing capacity is expected to support domestic production of more than one million full electric vehicles each year. • We expanded our R&D facilities to deepen our focus on developing high performing, critical battery materials. • We invested more than $10 million in Ascend Elements and have a partnership to commercialize their patented Hydro-to-Anode graphite recycling technology in the U.S. which generates 99.9% pure graphite from used lithium-ion batteries. • In April we broke ground on the largest EV battery materials facility in North America with our partner Syensqo (formerly Solvay) where Orbia will supply materials to manufacture PVDF, a crucial material for EV batteries. A pet monitoring camera captured the pup chewing on a power bank before a bright flash and a fire ignited.
