Excited to be part of the Almeda project, with information specialist Ursula Oberst of the ASCL Library in the project team. The major outcome will be a linked open #repository of #metadata on oral, unpublished and informal #African #literatures. Check out their website & find out how you can contribute: https://lnkd.in/eHKHDAfU
The ALMEDA project untangles how previous colonial systems of cataloguing and classification and their preference for published books have affected the visibility of African literary works outside of the published medium. It makes previously unknown African unpublished and non-book literature more accessible by creating an open-access, searchable database to be launched in 2025. On our Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram pages we will share updates on the research and future events so turn on notifications to stay up to date! You will find our website linked on all our profiles. https://almedaresearch.org

First and foremost: we wish all our followers a happy new year! A new year also means new ASCL Seminar announcements, the first one taking place on Thursday 1 February by Dr Sandra Calkins (University of Twente). Plots and other spaces under cultivation are not only vital for nourishment and health but also provide metaphors for social life and imaginations of future. In #Uganda, banana plantations are sites of cultural attachment, history, but also novel natural-cultural experimentation. This lecture by Sandra Calkins examines forms of human-plant intimacy emerging in a transnational research project that aims to introduce nutritionally improved banana plants to Uganda.
