Stony Brook University kicked off its celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month with two campus events April 3 — the opening ceremony and the student showcase.
The opening ceremony was held in the Charles B. Wang Center Theater, headlined by “Asian American Voices, Identities and Activism,” a lecture given by Vivian Louie, professor of Urban Policy and Planning and director of the Asian American Studies Center and Program at Hunter College. Prior to the afternoon ceremony, the Wang Center offered a guided tour of John W. Winkler’s “The Chinatown Etchings” exhibit.
That evening, the AAPI Heritage Month Student Showcase took place in the Stony Brook Union lobby. The event was a collaboration between the office of Diversity, Intercultural and Community Engagement (DICE), the AAPI Heritage Month Planning Committee, the AAPI Mentorship Network, and the participating student clubs and organizations. Performers included the KBS Dance Team, Music and Medicine, PUSO Cultural, Stony Brook Asha and more. The event also featured a DJ, dancing, group tables, an Asian-inspired food tasting and giveaways.
AAPI Heritage Month recognizes the rich and diverse culture of Asian Americans. The traditions and history of people of Asian descent is reflected across the Stony Brook community. Throughout the month of April, student groups and campus departments will host a variety of cultural and academic events.

AAPI Mentorship Network End-of-Year Celebration

Celebrate the achievements of mentors and mentees who participated in the AAPI Mentorship Network. Raffles and free refreshments will be served. Register to attend.

A Bollywood-fusion dance competition hosted by the South Asian Student Alliance.
CASB China Night
April 28, 6 pm, SAC Auditorium
The Chinese Association at Stony Brook (CASB) presents China Night, the club’s biggest event of the year featuring students’ talents along with performances from a variety of other organizations.
