Households in Cotswold District reminded that waste collection changes are just days away

Cotswold District Council is urging residents to check their upcoming waste collection days ahead of changes which come into effect next week for over half of all households in the district.

Implemented as part of the Council’s commitment to deliver greater efficiency within its waste and recycling service and cost-savings to the taxpayer, the changes mean over 26,000 households will now have a new waste collection day or week, or both, from the week commencing 24 June 2024.

Robert Weaver, Chief Executive, Cotswold District Council, said: “From next week, the days and weeks we will be making waste and recycling collections are changing for 60 per cent of households in the district.

“New waste calendars have been posted out to those who will be having a collection day change, however all households, even those that are not changing, may find that crews get to their property earlier or later in the day than they are used to, due to the new routes. Therefore, we’re reminding everyone to have their waste containers out ready at the kerbside by 7am on their scheduled collection day to prevent their collection being missed.

“While we will be working hard to minimise any disruption to residents, with such widespread changes taking place there is potential for some minor delays as crews familiarise themselves with their new routes. We’d like to thank residents in advance for their patience during the transition and while the changes settle down. While we do not anticipate that collections will be missed, should residents find that their collection hasn’t taken place as expected, it will help crews return promptly if these can be reported to us online as soon as possible after 4pm on the day of collection, and by no later than two working days.”

The new collection rounds are projected to deliver cost-savings of £375k in the current financial year for the taxpayer, with annual savings of £500k annually thereafter.

Any household that received an introductory flyer about the changes at the end of May but has not yet received their new waste calendar and explanatory letter, are urged to get in touch with the Council’s customer services team as soon as possible on: customer.services@cotswold.gov.uk or by calling 01285 623000 (9am to 2pm, Monday to Friday).
