General Election arrangements for Cirencester Leisure Centre

Cirencester Leisure Centre will be the control centre for the general election organisation and count. This will mean a partial closure of the site from 25 June, with a full closure on Tuesday 2 July, which includes the car park.

Cotswold District Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Robert Weaver said: “The general election has been called with just six weeks' notice. The Council’s team and Freedom Leisure have been doing a great job of working together to make sure we have the staff and resources needed to deliver the general election at short notice, whilst reducing the disruption to Leisure Centre users as much as possible.

“With the ongoing refurbishment of the leisure centre and the election being run from the centre, there will unfortunately be some disruption to normal services, as set out below. I’d like to thank people for their patience and understanding.”

The closures will include:

Main hall

6pm Tuesday 25 June to 10pm Friday 5 July

Squash courts

9am Tuesday 2 July to 10pm Friday 5 July

Dance studio

9am Tuesday 2 July to 10pm Friday 5 July

Whole centre, including car park to be closed on Tuesday 2 July

Cirencester Leisure Centre is also undergoing significant refurbishment, which is due to be completed by the end of summer 2024.

The improvements include:

  • Refurbished swimming pool and sports hall changing rooms and showers
  • New water play features for younger swimmers on poolside
  • State-of-the-art indoor cycling studio
  • New flooring for existing group exercise studio
  • Assisted gym area to be created
