Director: John Waters
1972 / 93min / 35mm

A midnight movie sensation and perhaps the signature film of Baltimore’s own Pope of Trash, “exercise in poor taste” Pink Flamingos features Divine as Babs, the matriarch of the criminal Johnson family, forced to guard her title as “Filthiest Person Alive” from a pair of interlopers (David Lochary and Mink Stole) conspiring to steal her crown. Members of Waters’s Dreamlanders repertory provide pungency in the supporting roles—like Edith Massey as Babs’s crib-bound, egg-obsessed mother—while Divine does it all, including proposing an innovative solution for keeping the Charm City’s streets free of canine waste.
