Family Medicine Residency Program

The Wright State University (WSU) Family Medicine Residency is a dynamic and exciting training program with unsurpassed innovation in education. We celebrate a long-standing commitment to community-based care and advocacy, and we put residents first in nurturing their wellness, personal growth, and leadership development.
Our faculty are kind, supportive and engaged with expertise in sports medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, psychology, geriatrics, hospitalist medicine, global health, refugee care, procedural training, medically-assisted treatment, and pharmacology.
Here is a sampling of what makes our residency exceptional:
- Comprehensive family medicine training in an urban setting with onsite pharmacists, social worker, substance-use disorder social worker, and community health worker.
- Advanced procedural training that includes regular cadaver-based experiences for all residents, casting/splinting workshops and a dedicated POCUS training curriculum.
- Resident-led family medicine inpatient service within a large, award-winning, tertiary-care medical center, Miami Valley Hospital.
- Second-to-none pediatrics training including dedicated inpatient and pediatric emergency medicine rotations at Dayton Children's Hospital, as well as a very large outpatient pediatric population at our family health center.
- Cutting-edge outpatient care strategies including Centering Pregnancy group-based prenatal care and a dedicated Global Health Clinic
- Active urban, underserved outreach opportunities including school based medical care, substance use care, caring for the unhoused and junior high and high school mentoring.
- Longitudinal wellness and resiliency training that includes "Tending the Flame" during the R2 year (similar to "Healer's Art" for medical students).
- "Longitudinal Residency Program" during R3 year, providing the opportunity to work with practicing community Family Medicine physicians on a weekly, continuity basis.
- Fantastic scholarly and teaching opportunities within the Wright State University Department of Family Medicine—perfect for residents interested in academic medicine.
- Resident leadership curriculum with opportunity and faculty support to start MPH or MBA during residency.
- Collaboration with the WSU Rural Family Medicine program, including opportunities for rural based rotations and joint didactics sessions.

Applications for the residency program are being accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
