Alex Rasmussen joined our department this academic year (2023-24) as a NSF Postdoc Transfer. He is currently teaching Math 51 this winter 2024 quarter.

Alex completed his PhD at Yale in 2020 and went on to be a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Utah until 2022 before he became a NSF Postdoc at the university from 2022-23. He is interested in Gromov hyperbolic metric spaces and mapping class groups with a particular interest in using hyperbolic graphs such as the curve graph to study mapping class groups and related groups.
