New PNAS Agreement: Updated Open Access Publishing Terms for Authors May 29, 2024 The University of California has renewed its open access publishing agreement with the National Academy of Sciences. While UC authors can continue to publish open access in PNAS at a discounted rate, the article processing charge (APC) will increase annually over the course of the three-year agreement due to changes in PNAS’s universal pricing structure. The APC under the previous agreement was set at $3,000, and in year 1 of the new agreement (for the rest of 2024), it will increase to $3,225. While the UC libraries and authors will both experience somewhat higher costs under the new agreement, the APC for UC authors remains $2,000 below the standard APC for immediate open access publishing in PNAS.
