For developing countries, trade is a proven way to drive productivity, support economic growth, and reduce poverty. To support trade and supply chain finance in #Mozambique, IFC - International Finance Corporation collaborated with the Associação Moçambicana de Bancos, The World Trade Organization and Proparco, and organized a two-day training workshop in Maputo for local banks and #SMEs. The workshop was attended by 75 delegates from banks and small businesses around the country. It featured topics ranging from financial training for SMEs, control mechanisms for banks to counter trade-based money laundering, and guidelines on how banks can facilitate the expansion of correspondent banking networks. IFC also presented the results of its research on supply chain finance structures in Mozambique, mapping opportunities for banks, corporates, SME’s and platform providers who leveraged the momentum and engaged in inspiring discussions on how to collaborate together. #DidYouKnow that taxes on tobacco, alcohol, and sugary drinks can significantly reduce diseases like cancer and diabetes while boosting government revenue? Well-designed health taxes are a win-win for public health and the economy. In some countries, tobacco taxes generate up to 0.6% of GDP, and alcohol taxes add up to 0.3%. Health taxes are more than just fiscal tools—they're a pathway to a healthier future. By reducing harmful consumption, they improve public health and fund vital health programs.
