KSA in collaboration with the RIIS - Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability successfully hosted a space ecosystem stakeholder co-design workshop at the Radisson Blu Upperhill, in Nairobi on 10 July 2024. The one-day co-design workshop dubbed “Road to Space Greatness”, is part of the ongoing work on the space innovation ecosystem review and roadmap development which is supported by the United Kingdom International Development (UKID) through the Research and Innovation Systems for Africa Fund (The RISA Fund). The workshop brought together key stakeholders from diverse sectors for vibrant ideation and brainstorming sessions, focusing on advancing innovation within Kenya’s space sector. Mapping Kenya’s space ecosystem is crucial for identifying stakeholders and understanding the sector landscape they operate in to guide on the necessary interventions needed to grow the ecosystem and attract requisite investment. The multisectoral dialogue was incredibly fruitful, offering invaluable insights and perspectives that will shape the development of a robust and inclusive innovation roadmap for the future of space in Kenya, with the long-term goal of tapping into the billion-dollar global space economy. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants for sharing their insights, expertise, and enthusiasm demonstrated during the workshop. We believe this will lay the foundation for Kenya’s space greatness… RIIS - Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability Charles Mwangi Davis Cook Kiringai Kamau Yankho Likaku Lindokuhle S. The Climate Innovation Challenge seeks to enhance the participation of the younger generation in addressing environmental issues and climate change through their local innovative solutions in the areas of science, engineering, entrepreneurship, and cultural change. The KSA DG apprised the Mayor and the team on the current initiatives being undertaken by the Agency especially those targeted to schools. He noted that KSA has been implementing the Space Club initiative in the country, which seeks to engage young learners in primary schools to introduce them to disciplines related to Space Science, Space Technology and their related applications. The Space Club focuses on four thematic areas: Earth Observation; Space Systems Engineering; Space Science and Astronomy; and IT and Robotics. KSA has developed the first edition of Space Club books which are available on the KSA website (ksa.go.ke) and is in the process of developing the second edition. KSA also hosts monthly webinars on the indicated thematic areas. The DG thanked the Mayor, CAVU and Ohanna Educational Center team for creating time to visit the Agency. #EducationForAll is a topic that we consistently talk about here at Avanti. Did you know that we have already connected 600 schools across Africa? What’s more, our aim is to connect 5,000 schools over the next five years. One critical person behind our education projects is Keziah K., our dedicated Safeguarding and Child Protection Officer. In her role Keziah ensures we provide connectivity with appropriate online educational resources, supports the implementation of our Girls’ Clubs, and oversees any engagement with children involved in Avanti-led education projects. Keziah said: “The schools I work with are marginalised and rural African schools that have been connected to the internet via Avanti’s ubiquitous satellite network. I work closely with them to ensure the preventative safeguarding measures are put in place.” Discover more from Keziah's blog, where she discusses: 👧🏽 Girls’ Clubs 🦺 Role of a Safeguarding Officer https://lnkd.in/emrUYsj5 #BeMore #Education #Connectivity #ConnectTheUnconnected #Africa
