Circularity is not only about the environment, it is also about improved quality of life. In Kenya, the government is working with waste collectors with both parties taking initiative to promote better waste management policies. Currently, waste management is like a cyclic loop that keeps on giving. Many stakeholders in the waste value chain are set to benefit from better policies from the government. Plastic recyclers are still excited about the Sustainable Waste Management Act. With waste being devolved, stakeholders are finding the conversations about their livelihoods closer to them. The waste sector has seen the introduction of a lot of new technologies. Companies in the waste value chain are looking for innovative ways to increase their recycling capacity, and this means new hardware, in some cases software too. More value addition means more revenue, meaning more decent jobs. With the waste sector quickly evolving to a gold mine, the government is trying to keep up the pace with better policies. A fully circular economy is not a far-fetched vision anymore.

We believe in the power of gender inclusivity to drive sustainable development. We're thrilled with the launch of the "Gender Mainstreaming Toolkit in Waste Management in Kenya." by Sustainable Inclusive Business Kenya and Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA). Like many other industries in Kenya, we are addressing gender-related challenges and promoting inclusivity within the waste sector. By empowering women with essential skills the opportunity to participate, we are fostering a more equitable future and better lives today. What a fantastic end to the week! Today marks the last day of the week-long bootcamp training for SWIFT-supported enterprises, organized by KCIC in partnership with IKEA Foundation. The 57 participating enterprises have gained invaluable knowledge and skills to manage the technical aspects of their businesses, navigate the regulatory framework, and meet the stringent compliance requirements in the waste management sector. The waste sector faces many challenges including lack of public awareness. These issues often make it difficult to manage and dispose of waste effectively, leading to environmental problems and health risks. Through our tailored support to the enterprises, they have been equipped to tackle these challenges directly and now have a better understanding of the regulatory landscape and the technical skills to implement effective waste management practices. The training will enable them to contribute to a more #sustainable and efficient waste management system in Kenya, creating positive environmental and economic impacts.
