Happy Tuesday!   We are pleased to announce the release of our final, four of four, Deep Dive Report on Financing Last-Mile Connectivity in Africa, as part of the Beyond Access Project. A collaborative initiative between E3 Capital , USAID under the Digital Invest Program, and FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank under the MASSIF Fund, with the shared objective of bridging the digital divide in Africa.   This final report is a culmination of the last-mile connectivity sector series, examining the funding landscape for connectivity in Africa. The report raises awareness of the supply of capital as a critical factor in the growth of the sector by delving into: 1)Dynamics of raising capital for connectivity businesses 2)The potential of blended finance to mobilize private sector investment into African connectivity 3)Profiles of some African ISPs that have successfully raised commercial capital and some of the active commercial investors in the sector 4)Operational challenges that African ISPs face and some suggested approaches to address them   If you haven't already, do take a look at our first 3 reports: 1. Flight from Nairobi to Kaula Lumpur - 200$, flight to Mozambique - 690$. At times it's cheaper to travel from Nairobi to Dubai or Europe than flying to a neighbouring country. Cost of transportation in Africa still remains one of the major road blocks for economic development as well as limits internal tourism on the continent. Inefficiencies in the logistics sector also contribute to significant CO2 emissions. Do start-ups and new tech have a role to play in the sector? The Inclusive Digitalization in Eastern and Southern Africa (IDEA) Program is a $2.48 billion financing envelope—financed through the International Development Association* (IDA) and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD)— that aims to bring together 15 countries and Regional Economic Communities and address common challenges such as limited internet coverage due to infrastructure gaps, low usage due to high cost of data and devices, limited digital skills, and lack of digital identification needed for online transactions!

We're now in Morocco! We are excited to announce our first investment in Morocco through the E3 Low Carbon Economy Fund in YoLa Fresh; a Moroccan #agritech startup building a transparent and sustainable fresh food supply network.  YoLa's innovative platform secured them $7M in pre-Series A funding. The round was led by Al Mada Ventures with participation from Algebra Ventures, E3 Capital , FMO - Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, and Janngo.africa This investment will fuel YoLa's expansion across Morocco and beyond, empowering farmers and guaranteeing freshness for consumers; and, by addressing the dual challenges of inefficient supply chains and food loss, the platform reduces agricultural greenhouse gas emissions in Africa. We are proud to back such a strong team and support their expansion into sub-Saharan Africa.
