📣 Call for Applications: Research Fellow I - Climate Resilient Economies (CRE) Programme We are seeking a Research Fellow to join the CRE Programme. The role focuses on capacity strengthening for climate resilience in Africa. The Research Fellow will co-design innovative trainings, seasonal schools, peer learning sessions, and working group discussions. They will engage with Capacity Strengthening (CS) Hub projects to identify capacity strengthening needs, co-create relevant tools and resources and collaborate with other CLARE hubs for synergies and partnerships. One of my favourite sections in "The University Drop In" talks about how his friends helped him leave the country just in time to pursue his graduate studies at Sussex University. Unbeknownst to him, political turmoil almost prevented his departure. About a week before he was set to leave, his army friend Evans Luseno approached him, offering to handle his farewell party and travel arrangements to ensure he departed as planned. With public gatherings under scrutiny, he wasn’t sure if he was on a watchlist, so he decided to be cautious. In his final week in Nairobi, he was constantly accompanied by his military friends under the pretext of organizing the farewell party. The farewell party took place in a rundown building in Westlands. He brought his luggage to the party and was driven straight to the airport afterwards. His friends escorted him to the plane, leaving only after he was buckled in. When he landed in New York 18 hours later, the immigration officer informed him, "You got out just in time. There was a coup attempt in Kenya." Some of Prof. Calestous Juma's works are not available in our local bookshops.
