Yesterday, we concluded our June Member Meeting 2024 with Day 3, organised with Inclusive Finance Network Luxembourg InFiNe.lu!
The morning started with the Vice-chair of our Board, Laura Elena Rosado (AXA), who stressed the importance of strengthening ties with our sister organisations to maximise impact. She also presented the topics of the day: advancing #financialinclusion and #InclusiveInsurance in climate and disaster risk finance.
The day continued with Anne BASTIN NDIAYE providing an overview of Inclusive Finance Network Luxembourg InFiNe.lu’s mission and flagship achievements, including the European Microfinance Award 2024. She explained how Luxembourg has been a key player in inclusive finance, committed to the microfinance sector since 1990.
Paul Weber (Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade) later emphasised the need to mobilise the private sector and foster public-private partnerships, as well as the role of inclusive insurance in achieving the #SDGs by 2030.
The following session delved into the Global Shield against Climate Risks’ work and their strategic approach to closing protection gaps. MiN's Pedro Pinheiro opened the floor to Astrid Zwick, Co-director of the Global Shield Secretariat, who noted: "We want to reunite all single actions and actors in one big frame, convening them and coordinating better."
We later listened to short but very informative presentations by different organisations who presented their work with particular emphasis on climate change. We heard from Ahila Devi Subramanian (DHAN Foundation), Ludwig Liagre, PhD (Rio Impact), Carlos Boelsterli (MiCRO - Microinsurance Catastrophe Risk Organisation), Stephan Peters (ICFA - International Climate Finance Accelerator), María Eugenia Tapia Rojo (Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Initiative), Alejandro Vazquez Ortega, CFA (Luxembourg Microfinance and Development Fund), and Francesca Phan (Finance in Motion).
Finally, the JMM was closed by our Board Chair, Lorenzo Chan (Pioneer Insurance), who gave an overview of the 3 days of knowledge sharing, noting how important it is to keep the conversation going: "Sometimes it's not enough to let our work on the ground do the talking. We have to go out and convince more people about the role of insurance."
