A few days ago, Nidec had the honor to see the inauguration of a project the company worked so hard for in the last couple years: the Shore-to-ship project for cruise liners. The first use of this plug-in happened at Grand Harbour, La Valletta cruise port in Malta, and at the moment, this electric connectivity system is a one-of-a-kind technology in the Mediterranean Sea for the cruise liners industry. The onshore power supply, also referred to as “cold ironing” is conceived to reduce up to 90% of the pollution produced by cruise ships in the harbor; and 40% of CO2 emissions of each single cruise, as the platform can be used by five cruise liners simultaneously. The system inaugurated in La Valletta was part of a project co-financed by the European Union, in an effort to decrease the emissions of the cruise ships, and on the other side, increase the sustainability of this line of work and of improve the quality of life of the ecosystem around the harbor. We are very proud of this achievement and are looking forward to seeing all electric harbors in the future. Nidec will always contribute to the green transition through technology and innovation. We continue to consolidate our leadership in the field of shore-to-ship power 🛳️. Recently, we added the port of Syracuse in beautiful Sicily, Italy, to our list of amazing destinations. Soon, all harbors and ships will be electric ⚡. Our technologies for the electrification of ports, ships, and ferries are accelerating this transition 📱. Additionally, our technologies allow boats to charge with their engines turned off while in harbor, reducing noise pollution and lowering CO2 emissions. Read more 👉: https://hubs.la/Q02GL1Sf0
