Its romantic spirit, as well as the age of the sitters and their clothes, but especially the lack of do-cumentation about the relationship between the painter and the Osuna family made it compulsory to revise the current attribution. Thanks to the records of the Archivo Histórico de la Nobleza, it has been established that the portrait was painted ca.1823 in Rome by Gaspare Landi and that the sitters are two grandchildren of the IXth Duke of Osuna rather than his children. This attribution sheds new light on the painting’s patron: Francisca de Beaufort, Xth Duchess of Osuna.

The selection of pieces, on the one hand, highlighted all the problems of the genre, from the lack of definition of the terminology to the absence of a Spanish bibliography, to the difficulties in locating them in libraries and catalogs; on the other, it allowed to identify their two most usual techniques in the Modern age: the volvelles and the flaps, as well as the most common themes that used each one. Both this text and the exhibition have the dual common objective of making known the precursors of these amazing books and studying them underlining the contribution of Spanish authors absent from the most important international repertoires

English At present, at the same time as revising the traditional museum concept and working towards a commonly accepted definition of literary museums, heritage libraries can be considered museums. This consideration is twofold, both from the point of view of material bibliography and in relation to literature, provided ...
