“I got an opportunity to with Saumyajit, during my stint at Antara (Max India). He is very passionate about the work he does, and protective of the team that he leads. It is a delight working with him. He expects a lot of productivity, innovation, and quality thought from his team, and everyone who he works with. He expected his team to be very well prepared at all times and be highly productive. Saumyajit expects the world out of his team, but the beauty is how he helped his team-members achieve the world. I requested for help from him on numerous matters with regards to Human Resources and asked a thousand questions and he ensured that I got whatever I needed. Saumyajit gave guidance and invested his time on issues and ensured that we were able to achieve tasks at hand. Saumyajit is a delight to work with. He is both a fighter and an extremely humble person at the same time. He has the rare ability of being an amazing professional and a sincere friend at the same time. A quality, which is rare and diminishing in today’s world. This quality also makes him extremely approachable to one and all. Saumyajit is an extremely task oriented and solution-oriented person. During my interactions with him, there was nothing on the list, that stood incomplete. He was an asset to Antara (Max India) and he will always be an asset to any company that he works with or the company he leads! ”

For the big chunk of elders who do not want to leave the comfort of their homes, there are start-ups like Emoha. Fuelled by the pandemic crisis, the app launched in 2019 has seen more than a lakh downloads till date. This virtual genie, with its 24x7 help desk, offers any and every assistance that an elderly may need — from providing doctors, nurses, sending ambulances in emergency to setting up healthcare appointments and customised services such as help in getting pension, insurance, passport/visa to running errands. The subscription plan ranges from Rs 99 a month to Rs 1,999 a month, with over 5,000 subscribers. Many 70 plus opt for the premium plan, which has an ‘Emoha daughter’ taking care of you just like your own daughter, says Sama Beg, chief product officer, Emoha.
Gurguram-based Sagarika Mukherjee (72) is one satisfied Emoha member. “My husband has Alzheimer’s. The app has come in handy thrice in medical emergency when no one else came to help. Once I even called them to help a neighbour who wasn’t a member,” Mukherjee adds.

Increasing cases of chronic diseases in elderly population is expected to augment the growth of India geriatric care services market in the near future. According to the first Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) released by the Union Ministry of Family and Health Welfare on January 6, 2020, two out of every three senior citizens in India suffer from some chronic disease. Furthermore, according to the report, approximately 23% of the elderly population (aged 60 and above) has multi-morbidities; elderly women are more likely to have multi-morbidity conditions. The LASI collected information from over 42,000 households, encompassing over 72,000 older adults from all states and union territories except Sikkim.
Key players are involved in organizing recovery and rehabilitation programs for senior citizens, which is expected to drive growth of India geriatric care services market. For instance, in June 2021, Emoha Elder Care, a technology-powered community-based comprehensive platform that enables elders to age with grace and relevance, announced the launch of #EldersFirstFestival to provide much-needed relief to the elderly by inviting them to participate in one-of-a-kind #ElderHour events scheduled to take place every week in June on its platform from Tuesdays to Saturdays. #EldersFirstFestival was a ten-week-long festival of elders that began on June 15, 2021 and concluded on August 21, 2021 on World Senior Citizen's Day. Companies such as OYO, Transport Corporation of India (TCI), HCL, PeopleStrong, TiE Global, and Somany Ceramics contributed to the festival's success. -

Ignorance towards their needs is the biggest impediment for senior citizens to live the best quality of life, according to Saumyajit Roy, Founder and CEO, Emoha Elder Care. "Many elders have an attitude that the autumn of their lives have come and now they don't need to look after themselves," says Roy. He further adds that most children of senior citizen parents do not realise what difference a professional elder care company can bring in the lives of their ageing parents.
Emoha Elder Care, a comprehensive eldercare company, is doing just that by providing a host of services to senior citizens. The company's services can be broadly divided into 5 categories - Emergency, Health, Safety, Convenience and Engagement. -
