I ask myself, “Does the work I do make my audience pause and examine how they feel about the product, service, or topic?” “Does it open new ways of thinking?” And finally, “Does it prompt the target audience to take some action?” This is what I call the IT Act (Introspection, Thinking, Action). The starting point is always visibility and attention. Yes, the campaign must grab attention but once it has got the eyes and ears of the audience, then the IT Act test is a good one to apply. Too often my effort stops at getting attention, which in itself is not an easy thing to accomplish. If I am not careful, it is easy for me to say “OK my job is done.” However, I believe by getting attention, the true job of public relations has only just begun.  #publicrelations

Can India’s legacy media based in Noida revive itself? Posing this question is akin to wondering whether the old model black-and-white EC television sets could make a resurgence in the era of smart TVs. The Erosion of Audience Base The redemption of Noida’s traditional media from the predicament it has fashioned for itself appears highly improbable. It requires no profound insight to discern that these expansive media conglomerates have steadily eroded their own audience base. Many households have ceased to subscribe to these channels via DTH services. Comparative Viewership A mere glance at their live viewership on YouTube starkly contrasts with that of independent journalists and commentators on alternative platforms. The disparity is vast. The legacy media no longer dictates the political agenda; that mantle has shifted to the other side. Superficial Introspection In the coming days, weeks, or months, one can expect superficial pronouncements from top executives and prime-time anchors, professing introspection and analysing past errors in strategy and judgement. However, I harbour serious doubts as to whether such exercises will suffice to restore the credibility these media entities have forfeited or reclaim the territory they have, either wittingly or unwittingly, ceded to genuine journalism flourishing elsewhere. Cosmetic Changes Replacing controversial on-air personalities might be another tactic to recapture some influence. Yet, as long as these entities remain reliant on the government for various concessions, including advertising, and their senior editors derive satisfaction from their associations with politicians, any tangible recovery seems unattainable. It is as unlikely as the comeback of the EC television set.

As a reporter with Asia Business News-Dow Jones and as a public health advocacy expert doing outreach campaigns for The Global Fund I found that the role of Indian generics was pivotal in affordable HIV/AIDS treatment. However, the next wave of Indian healthcare firms is focusing on providing the tech for health services firms in the US. This development coupled with the latest AI/tech trends around India -US collab is drawing the interest of smaller US PR firms to have a presence in India.
