During a recent development visit, I encountered key considerations that anyone planning such a project should keep in mind. Removing or repairing shared chimney stacks involves more than just knocking down some bricks. There are legalities, neighbor relations, and structural impacts to consider. The Party Wall Act of 1996 governs shared structures like chimney stacks in the UK. This means you need to notify your neighbors and obtain a party wall agreement before any work begins. This agreement will outline the planned work, responsibilities, and any necessary compensation. One of the main concerns is maintaining the structural integrity of both properties. It's essential to consult with a professional who can assess the situation and recommend the best course of action. For example, you might need to install a steel beam to support the remaining structure. Additionally, removing a shared chimney stack can lead to damp issues and debris falling into neighboring properties. Steps such as sealing newly exposed masonry or installing protective barriers during the removal process are crucial to prevent these problems. If you're planning a loft conversion or making changes to your roof, the impact on your shared chimney stack must be considered. This might involve reinforcing the stack, modifying the roof structure, or installing a dormer to accommodate the changes. Sure, here’s the corrected version: Now, all this comes at a cost, of course. The beauty of an HMO conversion project is that it allows the investor to recycle most of their investment through refinancing. On the other hand, amenities are also mounted entities that may perhaps be replaced, but require an identical or matching solution for the sake of design integrity and fitments. Relocatable amenities are sometimes considered facilities. Amenities are also designed as a subsystem that is part of a larger system -the building. Such subsystem amenities have well-defined relationships or connectivity and so can be manipulated.

Crafting narratives through Design ….. rethinking the architecture of Museum design and Museum display design Studio Decode’s intense journey for over a year to create a crafted environment to enhance the visitors experience in this museum. Where period styles, art, craft, culture, history, period styles, technology …. all had to come together to weave this space. And a wonderful collaboration with #ReReeti who curated the content for the museum. Few simple pointers we wanted the design to encompass : - Blend creativity and functionality - an environment to inspire, learn and engage - maximise visitor engagement - maximise flexibility - Integrate technology - a space that connects past, present and future - a space that can emote, appreciation for art, culture, history, and science all at the same time - transfers the idea of just learning to a joyful journey - creating memorable environments - logical and engaging environments and transition spaces - the emotional quotient of the space - captivate, motivate, interact and engage - an eclectic material pallette to create an identity that can transcend time - every element had to have a story About the photograph Photograph is of one of the many environments in the museum. The multiple vaulted ceiling is based on inspiration from the Mysore palace art on ceilings. The content for ceiling art is inspired from the key crafted content from 150 years of the firm. However, we need to bear in mind that raising money is NOT its only purpose. Its larger purpose is to steer and direct urban development. Therefore, thinking through the use of this tool needs to be rooted in the larger development vision for the city. #Inclusive Design for Social Change Don't our Specially-Abled Deserve Better..a small and safe #BrailleTrail in our key public parks? Should they not also be able to appreciate a public park on their own terms? Do we lack even this generosity? How often do we see a toilet specially designed for visually impaired? The total disabled population of Bangalore is around 2.75 lakhs, which is more than 10% of the disability population of Karnataka. Visual Impairment and Hearing impairment account for almost 55% of the disabled population. To start with what do we mean by Braille Trail? - It is about creating a safe environment within which disabled adults and children can traverse the space independently, freely, safely and experience nature . You may ask what is in this 1% of Trail Area that is so different? 1. Designed to give them independent movement- It has a simple looped walkway so they start and can come back to where they began without getting lost. 2. A public space for the 2.75% - how often do you see a disabled adult or child in a park? Hardly. Without help from another adult - never 3. Coming to children- most schools for the specially abled have minimum funds which means open space like how we have for our children who go to good schools is a dream. By giving this simple space for both the adults and children, we acknowledge that they too exist in our society and they too deserve a little space in our world, within which they are independent, which means they are free. Our proposal for an inclusive park and an inclusive toilet.
