Designing a Teen Girls Room Teen girls are neither children nor adults. They have their own specific needs and behaviours. These needs and behaviours need to be met and translated into our designs. Good design can positively impact the social, physical and mental development. Creating comfortable spaces that are also personalized and inspiring. Designing a room that incorporates art, personalizes the study chair, a custom design stationary trolley, patterns in fabric for seating, layering colours and textures etc can help create a meaningful experience to the teen room. Instead of a room that can be described as ‘boring’, new life/ meaning can be brought about, with the multiple props. ... a space that can be a relaxing oasis and yet have a character that can meet her personality. #teengirlrooms #bedroomdesign #studiodecode #meaningfulspaces

And this is so true FIU (future is us ) Youth Summit, may not have been conceptualised had it not been for Rostow Ravanan (he/him) and his wife. 2 years ago, their kindness, to support the idea of the event with harvard alumni kids and underprivileged kids together was the beginning. Their assurance of continued support for more such inclusive events, will give these children an opportunity for their voice to be heard on the same platform as our kids. Today Prasanth Nori and I, are able to bring together a hundred specially abled and difficult background students, to be part of this conference thanks to Rostow, Sajju, Sooraj, Tobby, Anand and so many other wonderful people who are lending a hand, giving their time, to make this knowledge sharing event, be an example for all alumni to give back to their community. Design of Compact/ Small Decks - an extension of your living space outdoors Providing a comfortable space to unwind, entertain and enjoy the outdoors... Irrespective of the area available, an intimate sit out can be designed that will be a great addition to any residence. Space planning to incorporate a swing, a little area for seating, plants, a space to spread out the food are important, so you can use it as an entertainment space or a lounge area. Below is the photograph of a residence we had designed with a small intimate terrace for a family of 4, which is now the most used space by the family. *Breathing new life into Old Spaces* and *Designing with Nature.... Blending the inside with the outside* An existing warehouse shed that we injected a new life into and converted it into a Lounge, which is a part of the larger Brew Lounge Design. The adaptive reuse of existing structures minimises our environmental impact, while simultaneously provides a new life to old buildings. This allows us to not just be environmentally conscious but also to be cost-effective, and sensitive to the architecture of the existing space. Our vision was also, to design, so as to be one with Nature. With envious wonderful climate that we have at Bangalore, the desire to connect indoors and out is stronger than ever. ‘Knowledge might be power but it is much more powerful when it is shared’ *FIU (Future Is Us)* , a one of its kind, 2 day truly *Inclusive* Youth Summit for teenagers from across backgrounds ( visually impaired, physically challenged and our privileged kids coming together) *A knowledge sharing outreach initiative by the Harvard Alumni*, for 300+ students from 50+ schools of Bangalore. An event like never before, where we are in constant discussion with students to understand what do they really want? Our intent is try to ensure the, *wish list of all the student volunteers* , is being worked on. The agenda will keep evolving over the next few weeks, so it can be an experience of a lifetime. #Braille wise Toilet - a toilet that gives a visually impaired person greater independence and comfort while using a toilet Have you ever wondered why there is no mandate for public toilets to include comfort for the #visually impaired? Present mandate is only to provide a #Handicap Toilet. When we designed a toilet for a park we proposed a truly #inclusive toilet, which we shared with visually impaired students, teachers and adults to get their feedback. We wanted to sincerely make them feel independent when they visit a a public space. However it is yet to be accepted and executed. Our vision, is to see Bangalore as a city that will have extensive infrastructure and commitment to inclusivity. And we will keep trying to get our voice heard…. Few statistics 1. 20% of the people in Karnataka with disabilities are visually impaired 2. Spaces, details and a dash of colour… It is said that, ‘Colours are a secret ingredient in making a space warm and inviting’. Colours can create a sense of comfort and can evoke emotions ranging from feelings of warmth and comfort. It is interesting to note that new research claims that dark blue is the worlds most relaxing colour.
