Practo

August 2021, right in the thick of the pandemic, I was at BCG, consulting on a bunch of healthcare projects. One of them even had me interacting with Abhinav, Practo's co-founder. He opened my eyes to the amazing things Practo was doing. Then, destiny stepped in. I was looking for a change from the consulting life, and my project manager connected me with Practo! Felt like it was meant to be! During my first few discussions with Shashank (Practo's CEO), I was hooked by his vision for the future.  He explained the new segments we were exploring, the target market, and the consumer needs that they were addressing - it was all very exciting. Plus, Practo was venturing into newer segments. I craved being part of that growth story, building something new from scratch, figuring things as we go. Unlike my earlier role, where everything was project-based, here,  I was taking full ownership of  a business itself. Every sales meeting, every conversion metric – I knew it all, I felt it all. It was like my own baby, and seeing it’s growth and progress is what has kept me going. Speaking of growth, when I joined the CEO's office, I was at a slightly earlier stage in my career. That one year exposed me to a diverse bunch of business leaders. Each one had their own style: some super organised with a clear structure, others action heroes who tested ideas faster than you could say 'prototype.' Observing these contrasting approaches was pure gold. It was like a crash course for me as I transitioned into my role of the Entrepreneur-in-residence (EIR) for the online consultations business. This EIR role wasn't made for me specifically and that’s what I love about how Practo does things. They empower creative folks to experiment, fail fast, then celebrate the wins. It's like giving you the keys to the playground and saying, "Go explore!" Past EIRs have even gone on to take up leadership roles or launched their own ventures. The idea, I guess, is to see if I can handle running a mini-business while boosting revenue streams – that's the EIR life in a nutshell. And that’s exactly what I went on to do, I went on to look after the entire online consultation business. From my experience, one thing I have understood is that - curiosity is king here. We also take ROI seriously – every penny invested needs a bang for its buck, while prioritising generating value for both patients and doctors (our entire customer base). There's a constant buzz to solve new problems and make life better for all. It's infectious, this drive to constantly improve healthcare. And that's what gets me going every morning! For me, Practo is a place where you will find people who will believe in you, create a support system for you, enable you to dream and do big things.
