Former Director General of The National Security Guard (NSG) Sudhir Pratap Singh’s heart was always focused on going above and beyond to serve the most downtrodden sections of society and transform their lives. Women with mental disabilities face severe discrimination, abuse and exploitation - more than other groups of people who suffer from mental illnesses. There is a strong stigma against women with mental disabilities, who are often seen as a curse by their own families and communities. In Pune's red-light area, Swadhar operates a fully functional 24x7 facility that serves as a lifeline for the most vulnerable and neglected children of sex workers. These children, often left to roam the streets until the early hours of the morning, bear witness to the harsh realities of living in red-light areas. Karsandas Mulji (1832 - 1871) was a social reformer and journalist in the 1800s and raised the banner for women’s education. Launching the weekly newspaper Satyaprakash,Mulji put forward his views on the necessity of social reform. In his weekly, he criticized slavery and other social evils that oppressed many sections of society. From Gujarat, Karsandas Mulji’s thoughts on the education of women did much to uplift and empower women and his works continue to inspire people today. #FridayFact
