Joanna Belle Gunderson was appointed by Illinois Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza as the Executive Inspector General for the Office of Illinois Comptroller on July 1, 2018. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Gunderson had served the State of Illinois as counsel for the State Treasurer’s Office, the Illinois Executive Ethics Commission, and as an Assistant Attorney General. In all of those roles Ms. Gunderson’s work focused on ethics in State Government, whether as an Ethics Officer, an Administrative Law Judge for the Ethics Commission, counsel for the State’s Chief Procurement Officers, or as a prosecuting attorney for Ethics Act violation cases before the Commission. Prior to her State service, Ms. Gunderson worked in private practice as an intellectual property attorney. She is a graduate of the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, the University of Illinois College of Engineering in Urbana-Champaign, and the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy.
